DUAL-HOME REGISTERED MANAGER
Help Us Build Homes Where Children Can Thrive
QW Accommodation Ltd – Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire
Salary: £50,000 per annum
Plus on-call fee and up to £4,000 Manager Bonus
Full-time | Permanent | 40 hours per week
This is an opportunity to build something from the beginning.
QW Accommodation Ltd is growing its children’s residential services in Hull, and we are looking for an experienced and passionate Registered Manager to help us develop our second and third children’s homes.
The role will oversee one solo home and one two-bed home, both of which will be progressing through Ofsted registration.
But for us, this role is about much more than registration.
We want our Registered Manager to help us build two genuinely good homes for children – places that feel safe, warm and welcoming; where children are listened to, understood and supported by adults who care about them and believe in their potential.
You will have the opportunity to be involved from the beginning: helping shape the homes, recruit the teams, develop the culture and establish the standards of care that children experience every day.
At QWA, Quality With Assurance is at the heart of what we do. We want to create services where the needs of the individual come first and where people are supported to achieve positive outcomes.
Help Us Shape the Homes
We are not looking for someone simply to maintain an existing service.
We want a Registered Manager who is excited by the opportunity to help build and develop two new children’s homes.
Working alongside our Service Manager and senior leadership team, you will help turn the vision for these services into homes that children can feel proud to call home.
You will have an important voice in:
- Helping shape how the homes operate from the outset.
- Creating warm, nurturing and child-focused environments.
- Recruiting the right people and building staff teams around the needs of the children.
- Developing a positive culture where children are respected, listened to and involved.
- Establishing routines, boundaries and ways of working that provide children with consistency and security.
- Helping develop each home’s Statement of Purpose, systems and working practices.
- Preparing both homes for Ofsted registration and leading them into operation.
- Creating high expectations for safeguarding, care and professional practice from day one.
- Developing strong Deputy Managers and senior staff who can provide consistent leadership in each home.
- Helping us learn and develop as we grow our children’s residential services in Hull.
Building the Service Around the Children
Our homes should work for the children who live in them – not the other way around.
As Registered Manager, you will help ensure that decisions about staffing, routines, activities, care planning and the day-to-day running of the homes start with the individual child.
You will make sure children have adults around them who understand their experiences, recognise their strengths and remain consistent when things are difficult.
You will lead your teams to provide care that helps children:
- Feel safe and secure in their home.
- Develop trusting and positive relationships with the adults caring for them.
- Feel listened to and involved in decisions about their lives.
- Maintain relationships with people who are important to them, where appropriate.
- Engage with education and develop their interests and aspirations.
- Look after their physical and emotional health.
- Develop confidence, independence and practical life skills.
- Enjoy positive experiences and make good memories.
- Understand and manage their emotions and behaviour.
- Make progress from their individual starting points.
- Prepare positively for their future.
We recognise that progress looks different for every child.
Sometimes the biggest achievement may be returning to education, developing independence or achieving a qualification. At other times, it may be beginning to trust an adult, feeling settled and secure, managing a difficult situation differently or simply beginning to feel that they belong.
Your Role as Registered Manager
Alongside helping us develop the homes, you will hold overall management responsibility for both services.
You will:
- Lead both homes through the Ofsted registration process.
- Provide strong and visible leadership across the solo and two-bed homes.
- Ensure the homes meet the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
- Ensure safeguarding and children’s welfare remain central to every decision.
- Recruit, lead, supervise and develop high-quality residential childcare teams.
- Ensure children receive individualised care based on their needs, wishes, feelings, strengths and risks.
- Oversee care planning, risk assessments, safeguarding, behaviour support and professional recording.
- Carefully consider admissions and matching so placements are appropriate and safe.
- Ensure children are actively involved in their care and the development of their home.
- Monitor children’s experiences and outcomes and challenge practice where improvements are needed.
- Maintain effective auditing, monitoring and quality-assurance systems.
- Ensure both homes remain safe, well maintained and Ofsted-ready.
- Build strong relationships with families, social workers, local authorities, education and health professionals and other agencies.
- Manage staffing, rotas and resources effectively.
- Participate in the management on-call rota.
- Work closely with QWA’s Service Manager and senior leadership team as our children’s services continue to develop.
The Person We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who understands that being a Registered Manager is both a leadership role and a responsibility to the children living in the home.
You should be able to balance regulatory compliance with compassionate, thoughtful leadership.
Applicants must have:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years in a position relevant to the residential care of children.
- At least 1 year’s experience supervising and managing staff working in a care role.
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England), an appropriate equivalent, or the ability to meet the applicable regulatory qualification requirements.
- Strong knowledge of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
- Excellent safeguarding knowledge and professional judgement.
- Experience leading and developing residential childcare teams.
- Strong organisational, auditing and quality-assurance skills.
- The ability to provide effective oversight of two small children’s homes.
- Confidence working with Ofsted, local authorities and other professionals.
- A genuine commitment to creating homes where children are safe, cared for, valued and given opportunities to succeed.
Previous Registered Manager experience is highly desirable, and experience of opening, registering or mobilising a children’s home would be particularly valuable.
