About the Role
We are seeking a Female Support worker to be a part of a team of 2 providing a total of 30 to 48 hours a week of support for Denise who has a spinal cord injury and has a young family. The role requires personal care, domestic support, mother’s help and administration support. The shifts during the week are generally following the pattern of roughly 7:00 to 11:00 and then 15:00 to 18:00. Sundays tends to be 17:00 till 00:00.
Self employed preferred but employed option is available. Self employed pay £20 per hour and employed at£16 per hour.
About Our Client
Denise, born in 1988 considers family to be her priority, she has a keen interest in sport and exercise and is a member of the GB Paralympics ice hockey team for which she has regular training and matches.
Denise was injured during a rugby match in October 2017. As a result of the accident and sustained severe injuries including a T10, spinal cord injury which has been classified as ASIA B, paraplegia. She also has a diagnosis of complex regional pain syndrome and suffers fatigue. Denise is independently mobile in her manual wheelchair and all basic wheelchair skills and a majority of advanced skills, she is independent with all transfers.
Your role will be to support Denise with day-to-day activities as needed. At times, this may include supporting with elements of personal care. This will also include supporting Denise with domestic tasks for her, as well as the family, assisting with the children's meals when needed, supporting her with childcare as required, school drop off and pick up support. She has 3 children, 2 in secondary school and 1 in nursery. Your role will also include driving and supporting Denise at her Ice Hockey training and assisting with any therapy based activities.
The role also requires personal assistant (PA) elements of supporting the household activities such as diary management, administration tasks, bookings and email support.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- *Female – personal care required
- Full clean driving license and able to drive the clients adapted vehicle.
- Own car required
- Confident with using I.T
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
- Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality and to respect our client and their family's need for privacy.
- Aptitude and desire to work with clients with complex needs.
- Flexibility as there may be some occasions where the client may need you to start earlier or finish later WITH prior notice.
- Reliable, trustworthy and a good communicator
- Willing to travel with client to training and to support on away days and training camps. A trip to Australia is scheduled for this year.
- Willing to participate in a variety of outdoor activities
Desirable skills and Experience:
- Experience of working with Spinal Cord Injury (This is preferred but enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn is desirable).
- Experience of carrying out therapy programmes.
- Ability to work additional hours as required.
- Able to work flexible hours, sometimes at short notice.
- Previous experience of using specialist equipment with disabled people
- Experience of reviewing risk assessments and care plans.
- Previous experience of hoisting and use of specialist equipment with disabled people.
- Experience of carrying out physiotherapy and/or multi-sensory programmes.
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
- Experience of working with individuals who require psychological support.
