What to Expect
We are looking for a driven and detail-oriented Metering Operations Specialist to join our growing operations team. This is a hands-on role at the heart of our electricity supply business, with a primary focus on metering and settlements – ensuring our metering and settlement data flows are accurate, timely, and fully compliant with our obligations under the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) and the Smart Energy Code (SEC). You will play a key role in the day-to-day metering and settlements operations for our customer portfolio, working across smart and traditional metering processes, data validation, exception management, and industry interactions. You will be expected to roll up your sleeves, take ownership of tasks, and actively look for smarter ways of working – whether that’s improving a manual process, automating a recurring task, or flagging issues before they become a problem. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their energy career who wants to build deep expertise in metering and settlements within a fast-paced electricity supply environment.
What You'll Do
Metering Operations
-
Manage metering-related operational processes across the customer portfolio, covering both traditional (non-smart) and smart metering assets.
-
Coordinate meter installations, exchanges, and removals with Meter Operator (MOp) agents, ensuring timely completion and accurate data updates.
-
Oversee smart meter enrolment and adoption processes under the Smart Energy Code (SEC), including DCC interactions and SMETS2 device management.
-
Investigate and resolve metering exceptions, including missing reads, failed exchanges, energisation/de-energisation issues, and data flow failures.
-
Monitor meter asset data held in industry systems and ensure records are accurate and up to date.
-
Liaise with Meter Asset Providers (MAPs), Meter Operators (MOps), and Smart Data Services (SDSs) to resolve operational issues promptly.
Settlements & Data Flows
-
Support the management of settlement obligations under the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC), ensuring accurate and timely submission of metering data.
-
Monitor and manage D-flows and data flows between industry participants.
-
Investigate settlement queries, volume discrepancies, and disputed meter data, escalating where necessary and tracking through to resolution.
-
Assist in managing Period Invoice queries and reconciliation, working with the BSC Agent (Elexon) where required.
-
Support the Half-Hourly (HH) and Non-Half-Hourly (NHH) settlement processes, including monitoring of profile allocations and consumption data.
-
Ensure compliance with BSC data submission timelines and assist in managing any settlement performance risks.
Process Improvement & Efficiency
-
Proactively identify manual or repetitive tasks and find ways to reduce effort through process improvement, automation, or smarter tooling.
-
Document operational processes clearly and maintain up-to-date process guides and trackers for the metering and settlements functions.
-
Flag recurring issues and data quality problems, work cross-functionally to identify root causes, and support the implementation of lasting fixes.
-
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement – if something isn’t working efficiently, own it and help fix it.
Operational Support & Collaboration
-
Support the wider Operations team with ad hoc tasks, onboarding activities, and workload peaks as required.
-
Work closely with the broader team to resolve metering-related customer queries and complaints.
-
Assist in preparing reports and MI on metering and settlements performance for internal stakeholders.
-
Participate in industry working groups or Elexon forums where relevant to the role.
What You'll Bring
The successful candidate should have working familiarity with the following areas (full training will be provided where gaps exist):
-
Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC): Settlement processes, data flows, metering data submissions, HH/NHH settlements, and obligations for licensed electricity suppliers.
-
Smart Energy Code (SEC): Smart meter enrolment, DCC communications, SMETS2 device obligations, and the responsibilities of Smart Energy Code parties.

Meter Asset Management: MOp/MAP/DC (SDS/ADS) relationships, meter installation and exchange processes, asset tracking, and industry systems and data platforms.
-
Industry Data Flows: D-flows, PUB/IF flows, SDS and MR interactions, and exception management processes.
-
Elexon / SAA: Understanding of Elexon's role as BSC Agent, the SAA, and how settlement volumes are allocated and reconciled.
Essential
-
At least one year of experience working in an electricity supplier, metering agent, or related energy industry environment.
-
Working knowledge of BSC metering and/or settlements processes.
-
Familiarity with smart metering operations and the SEC framework.
-
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
-
Proactive self-starter who takes ownership of tasks and follows through to completion.
-
Clear and confident communicator – able to liaise with internal teams and external industry parties effectively.
