We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Fit Tester to join our Fit Testing Department, supporting staff across London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. This role is primarily based at Northwick Park Hospital, with occasional travel to other Trust sites (approximately twice per month) to meet service needs.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring staff safety by delivering high-quality respiratory protective equipment (RPE) fit testing services. This includes both qualitative and quantitative fit testing for tight-fitting respirators, as well as supporting the maintenance, management, and use of Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPRs).
You will provide training and guidance to staff on the correct use of RPE, including donning and doffing techniques, mask suitability, and safe handling and storage. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, monitoring compliance, and ensuring equipment is properly maintained and available.
This role requires excellent communication, organisation, and customer service skills, as you will work closely with clinical and non-clinical teams across the Trust to deliver an efficient and reliable service. You will also contribute to the upkeep and routine maintenance of RPE, including PAPR systems, ensuring they are safe, functional, and ready for use at all times.
Responsible for fit testing staff to ensure that respirators (re-usable and disposable masks) fit their face using either the qualitative and quantitative fit testing methods in accordance to HSE INDG 479
Routinely replace reusable masks filters
Accurately record outcomes of fit testing (this may include paper records, spreadsheets and databases).
Review records relating to fit testing to identify staff who are due for routine retesting or have not been tested on new masks available within the Trust stock.
Maintain Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) and Fit Testing equipment to ensure sufficient testing equipment is ordered to continue fit testing staff trust wide
Communicate key messages to all wards and specialities regarding fit testing
Train staff with fit checking the masks
Train Staff in usage and management of PAPRs
Undertake other duties as requested and appropriate to the role and/or as delegated
