Lead Electrician / Qualified Supervisor
£45,000 per year | Full time | Company van and fuel card
Based in Maldon, covering Essex
Monday to Friday, normally 8am to 5pm
No routine overtime, with a shared out of hours call out rota
We are looking for an experienced, fully qualified Lead Electrician to take technical responsibility for and help grow the electrical division of our established family run plumbing, heating, air conditioning and renewable energy company.
This is a hands on electrical role with genuine responsibility and influence. You will lead on electrical standards and compliance while continuing to work on the tools.
You will not necessarily be starting from scratch. We already undertake electrical work across the business and may have another employed electrician working alongside you.
What you will need
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 electrotechnical qualification and AM2, or recognised equivalent
- Current 18th Edition qualification
- City & Guilds 2391 inspection and testing qualification, or equivalent
- Strong domestic electrical experience
- Experience with testing, certification and compliance
- The competence and experience required to support our NAPIT registration, subject to NAPIT assessment and approval
- Experience providing technical guidance or overseeing electrical work
- High standards of workmanship and attention to detail
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Full UK driving licence
- A reliable, practical and team focused attitude
Desirable:
- Current or recent NAPIT or other Competent Person Scheme registration
- Previous experience as a Qualified Supervisor, Lead Electrician or responsible electrical operative
- Experience supervising or supporting other electricians
- Experience with heating controls, air conditioning, solar PV, battery storage or EV charging
What you will be doing
- Acting as the company’s technical lead for electrical work
- Carrying out mainly domestic electrical installations, alterations, upgrades and fault finding, with occasional commercial work
- Completing inspection, testing, certification and remedial work
- Overseeing the standard and compliance of electrical work completed through the company
- Supporting and maintaining our NAPIT registration, subject to the necessary approval
- Providing technical support and guidance to other electricians and engineers
- Completing electrical work associated with heating, air conditioning and renewable energy projects
- Developing practical electrical processes and quality standards
- Working with the directors to grow the electrical side of the business
This is primarily a hands on engineering role rather than an office based management position. However, the successful candidate must be comfortable taking ownership of electrical standards and leading the department.
Working hours
Our normal working pattern is Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
The team meets at our Maldon office from around 8am for coffee, a morning catch up and preparation for the day. Jobs are normally scheduled from 9am, with a usual site finish of 5pm.
The role covers Maldon and the wider Essex area, so finish and return home times will vary depending on the location of the final job.
There is no routine evening or weekend work. However, you will take part in a shared out of hours call out rota with the wider engineering team.
For call outs, the attending engineer receives 50% of the customer’s call out charge, excluding VAT. For example, on a £200 plus VAT call out charge, the engineer receives £100 through payroll.
