Bartender / Bar Staff – Full-Time & Part-Time
Char & Barrel Ltd – Hatfield and St Albans, Hertfordshire
Char & Barrel Ltd is looking for a confident, outgoing and experienced bartender to join our growing hospitality team for our current and upcoming venues in Hatfield and St Albans, Hertfordshire.
We’re looking for someone with personality who genuinely enjoys engaging with guests, building relationships with regulars and creating a warm, memorable experience at the bar.
You’ll have strong bar and cocktail-making experience, take pride in serving consistently high-quality drinks and bring creativity and initiative to the role. We’re particularly interested in someone who can contribute fresh ideas and potentially help develop our drinks menu.
Pay and Contract type
Pay: £12.75–£16.00 per hour, depending on experience, plus a share of tips and service charge
Employment: Full-time and part-time positions available
Hours and availability
- Part-time applicants must be available for at least 20 hours per week. Full-time hours will be scheduled according to the rota.
- Regular weekend availability is essential
- Shifts will include a mixture of daytime, evening and weekend work, scheduled within the operating hours of the relevant venue. Current Hatfield trading hours are
- Sunday–Thursday: 12:00 pm–10:00 pm
- Friday–Saturday: 12:00 pm–11:00 pm
- St Albans operating hours will be confirmed before opening.
- Applicants may apply for either location or indicate if they are available to work across both venues.
What we are looking for
- At least two years of hands-on experience working behind a bar and making cocktails within a UK bar, restaurant or hospitality environment
- Applicants must have the right to work in the UK
- Strong knowledge of cocktails, spirits, beers, wines and bar service techniques
- The ability to confidently prepare a range of classic and contemporary cocktails
- The ability to contribute ideas for new cocktails, seasonal drinks and future drinks-menu development
- Confident spoken English, with the ability to explain menu items and communicate allergen information clearly.
- A naturally friendly and outgoing personality with an engaging and personable communication style
- A good sense of humour and the ability to create a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere while remaining professional
- The ability to recognise returning guests and build genuine relationships with regular guests
- Maintain professional presentation and high personal-hygiene standards in accordance with company policy
- Confidence working efficiently in a busy, fast-paced bar without compromising quality
- A proactive attitude and the initiative to identify what needs to be done without always waiting for instruction
- A genuine team player with an interest in continuing to develop within the hospitality industry
Key responsibilities
- Welcome guests to the bar with a warm, friendly and engaging approach
- Build rapport with guests and create a welcoming environment that encourages guests to return
- Prepare and serve drinks accurately and consistently from our drinks, cocktail and bar menus
- Provide recommendations and confidently suggest drinks based on guests' tastes and preferences
- Contribute ideas for new cocktails and menu development, following approved recipes and management authorisation
- Recognise and welcome returning guests, helping to build strong relationships with our regular guests
- Prepare drink orders quickly and efficiently during busy service
- Maintain consistently high standards of drink quality, preparation and presentation
- Serve alcohol responsibly and follow all licensing requirements, including Challenge 25 procedures
- Recognise when service should be refused and refer concerns to the duty manager
- Ask about allergies and dietary requirements and follow approved recipes and allergen procedures
- Complete bar opening, restocking, cleaning and closing duties as required
- Maintain a clean, safe, organised and well-stocked bar in line with hygiene, safety and licensing standards
- Work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure efficient, seamless service
- Process payments accurately when serving guests directly at the bar
- Continue developing your knowledge of our drinks, menus and service standards
