About the Role
We're looking for a proactive and hardworking Estates Operative to join our friendly Wyldewoods village team. This is a varied, hands on role with a primary focus on maintaining our beautiful grounds, gardens and outdoor spaces throughout the year.
During quieter seasonal periods, particularly in the winter months, you will also support the Facilities team with general maintenance, repairs and village upkeep.
This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, has high personal standards, enjoys working outdoors, and can work independently using their own initiative.
You'll play an important role in ensuring our residents enjoy a safe, attractive and well maintained environment, both inside and outside the village.
Key Responsibilities - Grounds Maintenance (Primary Focus)
- Maintain lawns, flower beds, borders, hedges, trees and landscaped areas to an excellent standard.
- Carry out planting, pruning, weeding, watering and seasonal gardening activities.
- Operate and maintain gardening machinery and equipment safely.
- Keep pathways, car parks and communal outdoor spaces clean and presentable.
- Maintain fences, gates, outdoor furniture and village amenities.
- Support landscaping and improvement projects across the estate.
- Conduct regular inspections of grounds and identify areas requiring attention.
- Ensure all outdoor areas reflect the high standards expected by residents and visitors.
Maintenance Duties (Seasonal and As Required)
- Respond to maintenance requests from residents and colleagues.
- Carry out minor repairs, decorating and basic joinery tasks.
- Complete regular building and safety inspections.
- Support the Facilities Manager with planned preventative maintenance checks.
- Monitor lighting, emergency systems and communal facilities.
- Assist contractors working on site when required.
- Help identify and report maintenance and health and safety issues.
- Salt and grit roads, pathways and entrances during winter months.
- Support wider village operations and projects as directed by the General Manager or Facilities Manager.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, landscaping or a similar outdoor role.
- Basic maintenance or property repair experience would be advantageous.
- Self motivated with the ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- High attention to detail with pride in maintaining exceptional standards.
- Practical and confident using hand and power tools.
- Physically able to undertake manual duties including lifting, carrying and operating equipment.
- A flexible and positive attitude with a willingness to support different areas of the village.
- Good communication skills and a customer focused approach.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements within a working environment.
What We Offer
- Generous holiday entitlement including birthday leave.
- Enhanced pension scheme.
- Wellbeing and volunteering days.
- Staff rewards and recognition programmes.
- Training and development opportunities.
- A supportive and community focused working environment.
Why Join Us?
This is more than a grounds role. You'll be helping to create and maintain an environment our residents are proud to call home.
