This is a remote role with occasional travelling for meetings.
The Role
We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Learning Systems Lead to take strategic ownership of our learning systems, platforms and wider digital learning ecosystem.
This is a key role in helping us ensure our technology effectively supports curriculum delivery, learner journeys, operational processes and organisational growth.
You’ll work closely with Product, Curriculum, Quality, Data, Compliance, IT and Operational teams to optimise our platforms, improve user experiences, strengthen system processes and identify opportunities for innovation.
As our organisational expert in learning systems and technology-enabled learning processes, you’ll lead on platform configuration, governance, integrations, reporting and continuous improvement.
You’ll also play an important role in exploring how AI, automation and emerging technologies can help us work smarter, improve engagement and deliver better outcomes for learners, employers and colleagues.
You will have a varied role, including:
Strategic Leadership & Platform Development

Lead the strategic development, optimisation and continuous improvement of our learning systems and digital learning platforms.

Develop and maintain a learning systems roadmap aligned with organisational priorities and curriculum strategies.

Identify opportunities to improve learner, employer and colleague experiences through effective use of technology.

Ensure systems are scalable, future-focused and aligned with business growth.

Research emerging technologies, educational innovation and sector best practice to inform future developments.

Contribute to digital transformation and technology-enabled improvement projects.

Support the evaluation, procurement and implementation of new learning technologies and digital tools.
Learning Platform Management
You’ll have overall responsibility for the administration, configuration and optimisation of learning systems, including platforms such as:

Aptem and other Learning Management Systems (LMS)

Digital assessment systems
-
Learning content repositories
You’ll:

Configure systems to effectively support curriculum delivery, learner engagement and operational processes.

Manage system enhancements, upgrades, releases and testing.
-
Develop and maintain platform standards, governance processes and operational procedures.
-
Monitor system performance, utilisation and adoption.
-
Manage user access, permissions and controls.
-
Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, usability and functionality.
Systems Integration & Data
-
Lead the management of integrations between learning systems and other organisational platforms.
-
Work with Data, Compliance and IT teams to maintain data quality and integrity.
-
Support the development of automated processes and workflows.
-
Manage third-party integrations and API connections where required.
-
Contribute to data governance, reporting and information management.
-
Identify opportunities to use automation to reduce manual processes and improve efficiency.
Curriculum & Product Support
Working closely with Learning Architects and Digital Content Designers, you’ll ensure our systems effectively support curriculum structures, learning journeys and product delivery.
This will include:

Supporting the implementation and maintenance of curriculum products within Aptem and other learner management systems.

Ensuring programme structures, learning activities, resources and assessments are correctly mapped.

Supporting curriculum launches and product enhancements.
-
Contributing to learning technology projects.

Identifying opportunities to use platform functionality to improve learner engagement.
User Experience & Stakeholder Support
You’ll be the go-to person for complex learning systems queries and issues, working collaboratively with stakeholders to find effective technology solutions.
You’ll:

Act as the primary escalation point for complex learning systems issues.

Gather feedback from learners, employers and colleagues.

Use feedback to inform platform improvements.

Lead stakeholder engagement around system developments and changes.

Promote digital confidence across the organisation.

Help colleagues get the most from our learning technologies.

Ensure systems remain intuitive, accessible and user-friendly.
Reporting & Performance
You’ll use data to understand how our systems are performing and where improvements can be made.
This will include developing and maintaining dashboards, reports and performance measures covering areas such as:

Learner interaction and resource usage
You’ll turn this data into meaningful insights and recommendations that help shape future developments and business decisions.

Ensuring systems align with GDPR, safeguarding, accessibility and information governance requirements.

About You
Essential:
- Degree Level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
- Relevant qualification in Learning Technology, Digital Systems, Data Management, Business Systems or a related discipline, or substantial equivalent experience.
- Significant experience managing learning platforms, learner management systems or learning technologies.
- Experience of Aptem, PASS or similar apprenticeship and learner management systems.
- Experience implementing, configuring and optimising learning technology platforms.
- Experience managing systems integrations and digital processes.
- Experience working within apprenticeship, further education or work-based learning environments.
- Experience developing reports, dashboards and performance measures.
- Experience supporting organisational change through technology solutions.
- Strong understanding of learning management systems and digital learning technologies.
- Excellent knowledge of Aptem and its application within apprenticeship or training environments.
- Strong understanding of curriculum and learner management processes.
- Knowledge of data management, reporting and systems integration principles.
- Understanding of GDPR, information governance and data security requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
