Homesdale Supported Living is excited to be opening a brand new supported living home in Bexleyheath.
This service will support four young gentlemen aged between 20 and 30 with complex learning disabilities and behaviours of concern to live successfully in their own home. For some of the people we support, this will be their first experience of moving away from the family home and taking the next step towards greater independence.
This is a rare opportunity to join a new service from the very beginning. As a Specialist Support Worker, you will help shape the culture of the home, establish positive routines, build meaningful relationships and support people to achieve outcomes that are important to them.
You will play a vital role in helping people develop independence, learn new skills, access their community, build friendships and enjoy a fulfilling life. Every day will bring new opportunities to make a genuine difference.
Due to the complex needs of the people we support, we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have previous experience supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism, behaviours of concern and complex support needs.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting people to live fulfilling and meaningful lives in their own home
- Supporting with personal care, daily living activities and maintaining a safe home environment
- Promoting independence, choice, dignity and respect
- Supporting people to access activities, education, employment and community opportunities
- Building positive and trusting relationships with the people you support
- Implementing Positive Behaviour Support plans and proactive strategies
- Following behaviour support guidelines to improve quality of life and reduce restrictive practices
- Supporting people to develop communication, life skills and confidence
- Working collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals and multidisciplinary teams
- Recording accurate notes, reports and documentation using electronic systems
- Contributing to a positive, supportive and person-centred team culture
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience supporting adults with learning disabilities
- Experience supporting people who display behaviours of concern or behaviours that challenge services
- Good understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and person-centred approaches
- Knowledge of safeguarding, risk management and professional boundaries
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A positive, resilient and proactive attitude
- Ability to remain calm and confident during challenging situations
- Passion for helping people achieve positive outcomes and greater independence
Desirable Experience
Previous experience supporting individuals with complex learning disabilities, autism, forensic backgrounds, mental health needs or behaviours of concern would be advantageous.
Experience or knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), PROACT-SCIPr-UK®, behaviour support plans, autism-specific support approaches, communication support strategies, sensory needs and reducing restrictive practices would be highly desirable.
