Join Our Team: Front of House Assistant Wanted!
We are looking for an enthusiastic Front of House Assistant to join our friendly café team. This varied role involves supporting both the kitchen and front of house, helping to create a welcoming experience for every customer and maintaining excellent service standards throughout the day.
The role includes taking orders, serving food and beverages, preparing café areas, assisting with light kitchen duties and ensuring customers receive warm, attentive and professional service.
During the summer months, the café becomes especially busy, so the successful candidate will be confident working in a fast-paced environment, able to stay organised under pressure and happy to support the team during weekends, holidays and peak trading periods.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Welcome customers warmly as they enter the café and provide helpful assistance where needed.
- Prepare and serve food and beverages to customers efficiently and to a high standard.
- Handle payments accurately and confidently using the till.
- Keep café, kitchen and outdoor areas clean, safe, organised and hygienic at all times.
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer feedback, comments or complaints.
- Uphold high standards of health and safety, cleanliness and professionalism.
- Set up café areas by arranging tables and chairs and ensuring service areas are fully stocked.
- Load and unload food, tableware and utensils into the dishwasher as needed.
- Help monitor supplies, orders and inventory to support smooth daily operations.
- Present menus, answer customer questions and make recommendations when requested.
- Inform customers of daily specials and seasonal offers.
- Describe menu items clearly, including ingredients and preparation methods where appropriate.
- Check that customers are enjoying their visit and take action to resolve any issues quickly.
- Clear dishes and glasses from tables and return them to the kitchen for cleaning.
Carry out any other duties reasonably required to support the café team and deliver excellent customer service.
SKILL SET:
- Previous experience in a café, hospitality or customer-facing role is desirable.
- A positive customer service attitude and the ability to remain calm, organised and efficient under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to use initiative while working well as part of a supportive team.
- Self-motivated, reliable and willing to get involved wherever help is needed.
- Strong organisational skills, particularly during busy summer periods and peak service times.
