Job Summary
The Main Grade Lecturer – Fashion (0.5 FTE) plays a key role within the Creative Industries Department, delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Fashion programmes. The role combines classroom delivery with Course Leadership responsibility for one year group and Personal Tutoring, ensuring learners achieve their full potential and progress successfully into higher education, employment or apprenticeships.
Working closely with colleagues, employers and industry partners, the post holder will maintain a contemporary and industry-relevant curriculum that develops learners' creative, technical and professional skills. The role has a direct impact on learner achievement, attendance, retention, progression and overall learner experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Fashion programmes, ensuring lessons are engaging, inclusive and aligned to current industry practice.
- Enable excellent learner outcomes by planning and delivering inspiring lessons that develop creative, technical and employability skills.
- Act as Course Leader for a designated year group, coordinating programme delivery and supporting curriculum quality and continuous improvement.
- Monitor learner progress, attendance, punctuality and achievement, implementing timely interventions where required.
- Act as Personal Tutor, providing pastoral support, conducting progress reviews and promoting learner wellbeing and success.
- Maintain high standards of assessment practice, providing timely and constructive feedback and ensuring compliance with awarding body requirements.
- Contribute to quality assurance processes including internal verification, standardisation, self-assessment and quality improvement planning.
- Develop and maintain strong employer, university and industry links that enrich the learner experience and support progression opportunities.
- Organise and support live briefs, exhibitions, competitions, enrichment activities and employer engagement projects.
- Promote a culture of professionalism, creativity, safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the learner journey.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support recruitment, enrolment, open events, internal progression activities and curriculum development.

Please note that the duties and responsibilities outlined above are not exhaustive and may change from time to time following consultation with the post holder. The role may require occasional evening and weekend working to support exhibitions, open days, employer engagement and other College events.

Our Sports Centre at Southgate Campus is available for all staff with cardio, strength and conditioning equipment. The 2-floor gym is free for members of staff to use Monday to Friday within term time.

Barnet and Southgate College is a further education college that works in partnership with local, regional and national employers to provide bespoke training specific to industry needs.
The College has a dedicated Enterprise and Employment team that works with a network of local employers and national companies to develop and provide training that meets their requirements and creates apprenticeship opportunities.
The College focuses on technology and business, offering a range of qualifications and professional development courses at specialised training centres.
Along with industry-led qualifications in business, childcare, health and social care and computing, the College also offers facilities to train in gas, plumbing and construction skills at the Colindale Campus; arts, new media, animation and VFX studios at the Wood Street Campus, and sports and electrical installation workshops at the Southgate Campus.
The Southgate Campus is also home to our Pathway Centre, which provides specialist courses for those with learning disabilities and/or difficulties.
