Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our culinary team in delivering exceptional dining experiences at The Parliament Arms on Canongate, Edinburgh. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive culinary expertise, and a thorough understanding of food safety and kitchen operations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to oversee all aspects of food preparation, manage kitchen staff, and ensure the highest standards of quality and service are maintained. The Head Chef will play a pivotal role in shaping the menu, maintaining kitchen organisation, and fostering a positive team environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the kitchen team, ensuring efficient workflow and high standards of food production
- Oversee all aspects of food preparation, cooking, and presentation to meet quality standards
- Develop innovative menus in collaboration with management, considering seasonal ingredients and customer preferences
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen
- Manage inventory levels, order supplies, and control food costs effectively
- Train and mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
- Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery
- Monitor cooking processes to ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and portion sizes
- Uphold health & safety standards across all kitchen operations
- Assist in serving customers when necessary, providing excellent hospitality
Experience
- Proven supervisory experience within a professional kitchen environment
- Extensive background in food production, culinary arts, and restaurant operations
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hospitality settings
- Experience in menu development, food presentation, and managing kitchen logistics
- Previous experience working in a high-volume restaurant or similar hospitality establishment is highly desirable
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
