RESTAURANT MANAGER – AFTERNOON & EVENING SERVICE
Shambles Bistro – North Walsham, Norfolk
£30,000–£33,000 basic + TRONC (typically £4,000+ per year)
40 hours per week | Predominantly afternoon & evening shifts
SUNDAYS & MONDAYS OFF AS STANDARD
A hospitality management role with two regular consecutive days off
Shambles Bistro is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Restaurant Manager to join our independent, family-run AA Rosette restaurant in North Walsham.
We know that good hospitality management roles offering a genuine work-life balance can be difficult to find. This is a 40-hour salaried position with Sundays and Mondays off as standard, giving you two regular consecutive days away from work each week.
The role is predominantly afternoon and evening based, taking responsibility for our restaurant, dinner, bar and events operation. We have a daytime Manager who oversees our breakfast and daytime café service.
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality – a friendly, confident manager who can lead from the floor, motivate a team and deliver excellent service while understanding the commercial side of running a successful restaurant.
THE ROLE
Working closely with the owners, daytime Manager and kitchen team, you'll take responsibility for the smooth running of the restaurant, particularly our afternoon and evening operation.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the FOH team – organising rotas, managing staffing levels, training and motivating the team and leading from the floor during service.
- Delivering excellent hospitality – ensuring friendly, professional and attentive service and confidently dealing with any issues that arise.
- Managing restaurant operations – overseeing reservations, EPOS, cashing up, reporting and maintaining excellent hygiene and safety standards.
- Managing the bar and drinks operation – overseeing stock, ordering and deliveries and helping develop our wine and cocktail offering.
- Managing commercial performance – working within agreed staffing, stock and operational budgets, controlling costs and wastage and identifying opportunities to increase sales and maximise profitability.
- Developing the business – helping grow our events and private functions, contributing new ideas and continually looking for ways to improve the guest experience and overall performance of the restaurant.
ABOUT YOU
We're looking for someone with previous restaurant, bar or hospitality management experience who is warm, personable and confident with customers, but equally comfortable taking charge of a busy service.
You'll need to be organised, commercially aware and a strong communicator, with the ability to motivate a team, solve problems and use your own initiative.
An interest in food, wine and cocktails is important, and good knowledge of wine, cocktails and bar operations would be a particular advantage.
Experience using EPOS and restaurant booking systems is desirable.
HOURS & PACKAGE
£30,000–£33,000 basic salary + TRONC typically £4,000+ per year
Typical total earnings approximately £34,000–£37,000
- 40-hour working week
- Sundays and Mondays off as standard
- Two regular consecutive days off every week
- Predominantly afternoon and evening shifts
- 28 days' holiday
- Staff discount
- Free meal while on shift
We want this to be a management position that offers both real responsibility and a sustainable working week. You'll have the opportunity to make an impact on the business without the excessively long weeks and constantly changing days off often associated with hospitality management.
