Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance Team Leader to oversee and coordinate some of our outdoor landscaping and maintenance projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a thorough understanding of grounds management, and the ability to operate various tools and machinery. Operating within school environments and public sector settings, this role involves managing a team to deliver high standards workmanship in operations including hard and soft landscaping, horticulture, watercourse maintenance and invasive weed treatments efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of operatives, ensuring tasks are completed safely and to a high standard.
- Plan daily schedules and allocate tasks effectively across team members.
- Execute hard landscaping projects including paving, fencing, brickwork and timber structures.
- Oversee and deliver soft landscaping duties such as turfing, planting, seeding and habitat creation
- Oversee and deliver watercourse maintenance including clearance, desilting, and bank stabilization.
- Manage and implement invasive weed treatments ensuring safe, legal chemical and mechanical eradication.
- Operate heavy machinery such as excavators, power tools, and specialized equipment safely.
- Conduct safety inspections of grounds to identify maintenance needs or hazards.
- Ensure strict compliance with health, safety and school safeguarding regulations.
- Provide training to team members on equipment use, horticulture and safety.
- Maintain accurate records of work and materials using work management software.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience in both hard and soft landscaping, commercial gardening, or horticulture.
- NPTC PA1 & PA6AW Qualifications: Essential for applying pesticides near water (Candidates holding PA6A will be considered but must be willing to gain PA6AW within 3 months).
- Practical construction skills required for hard landscaping features (fencing, paths, walls, minor flood defence projects).
- Strong mechanical knowledge to operate excavators, woodchippers, and power tools.
- Risk assessment ability for challenging environments like watercourses and school grounds.
- Excellent leadership with experience supervising or managing operational teams.
- Clear communication for interacting with school staff, clients, and team members.
- Physical fitness suitable for heavy outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Key Requirements
- Enhanced DBS Check: Must be passed successfully prior to employment due to regular work on school premises.
Pay: £31,420.00-£33,100.00 per year
