Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Calf & Young Stock Assistant to join our agricultural team. In this vital role, you will support the care, management, and development of young livestock, ensuring their health and well-being from birth through early growth stages. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with animals, contribute to sustainable farming practices, and develop hands-on skills in livestock management. The ideal candidate will be reliable, hardworking and able to work as part of a team and on their own.
Duties
- Assist with feeding using an automatic calf-feeder, watering, and monitoring young calves and livestock to promote optimal growth and health.
- Support the cleaning and sanitation of animal housing areas to maintain hygiene standards.
- Observe animals daily for signs of illness or distress and report any concerns promptly.
- Help with vaccination, medication administration, and other health management procedures under supervision.
- Support the handling and restraint of young animals during routine checks or veterinary visits.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding schedules, health treatments, and growth progress.
- Consult with team members to implement best practices in animal husbandry and welfare.
Experience
- Prior experience working with young livestock or in an agricultural setting would be an advantage, but training can be provided for the right person..
- Strong communication skills are essential for effective teamwork and reporting observations clearly.
