Job Summary
We're looking for an experienced barista to join Kin Coffee in Staplehurst.
This role would suit someone who is quietly competent, works quickly and efficiently, and takes real pride in keeping a clean, organised and functional workspace.
You'll often open the shop and work the morning rush largely on your own, serving coffee and pastries before additional team members arrive. We can get very busy, so being able to stay calm, organised and efficient under pressure is essential.
There is also the possibility of shifts at our Tenterden shop in September/October if that location suits you better.
Responsibilities
- Open the shop and get everything ready for service
- Put out tables and chairs and prepare the customer areas
- Set up the coffee station and make sure everything is stocked and ready
- Bake and prepare morning pastries
- Serve coffee and pastries during a busy solo morning service
- Keep your workstation, tables and equipment clean and organised throughout the shift
- Work efficiently without needing constant direction
- Work as part of the team once additional staff arrive
- Eventually learning some food preperation/cooking over the weekeends
- Assist with closing and thoroughly clean the shop ready for the following day
Our brunch food is prepared once additional team members arrive, so you will not be expected to cook brunch food during the solo morning service.
Requirements
- Previous barista experience is essential, preferably with latte art
- Confident making espresso-based drinks in a busy environment
- Comfortable working independently
- Fast, organised and efficient under pressure
- Naturally clean and tidy, with high attention to detail
- Takes pride in setting up and closing down a shop properly
- Friendly and polite with customers
- Available to work at least one weekend day, preferably two
- Ideally available Thursday to Sunday
We'd prefer someone who already has good coffee experience. We'll then help you finesse your skills and develop them further, including dialling in grinders, espresso extraction, puck preparation and latte art.
If you can already pour a good latte art heart, we'll help you work towards tulips, rosettas, swans and beyond.
We roast our own coffee at Kin in store, so there is also the opportunity to learn more about coffee origins, processing, roasting and different brewing methods.
We're a small, independent coffee shop with a lovely base of regular customers. We get to know many of our customers and their usual orders, but the most important thing is simply being efficient, friendly and good at what you do.
The atmosphere is relaxed and fun, with great music, disco balls and a lovely team, but the mornings can be very busy and we need someone who can really get stuck in.
During your shift you're welcome to pastries, yoghurt bowls or banana bread, as well as unlimited hot drinks and water. We'll also provide Level 2 Food Hygiene training if you don't already have it.

We're happy to discuss different hours for the right person, including additional paid hours where needed for closing etc. We can also discuss an increased wage after a trial period if you are interested in taking on some managerial reponsabilities.
