1st Step Education and Training are a Leicester City Centre based alternative education provider. We support young people aged 13-16 years of age in accessing vocational courses. We are currently recruiting for an experienced multi-skilled trades person, to teach practical skills to young people in our construction simulation suite as well as delivering in schools. We work closely with schools across Leicestershire, East Midlands and West Midlands.
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Bike Maintenance Tutor to join our team. This role involves instructing individuals on the fundamentals and advanced techniques of bike maintenance, ensuring they develop practical skills in a supportive environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong organisational and communication skills, with a passion for teaching and cycling. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to share expertise while fostering a love for cycling within the community. It is not essential that you must hold a teaching qualification as we will provide training and qualification for the right candidate.
Duties
- Deliver engaging and informative lessons on bike maintenance, covering topics such as tyre repairs, brake adjustments, gear tuning, and basic plumbing related to bike systems.
- Assess learners’ skill levels and tailor instruction accordingly to maximise understanding and confidence.
- Demonstrate proper use of tools and equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times.
- Provide clear explanations of technical concepts using accessible language, supported by visual aids or practical demonstrations.
- Maintain organised lesson plans and keep records of learner progress.
- Assist learners with troubleshooting common issues and encourage independent problem-solving.
- Foster a positive learning environment that promotes safety, curiosity, and enthusiasm for bike maintenance.
Skills
- Fluency in English with excellent verbal communication skills to effectively convey technical information.
- Proven teaching experience or a background in education, with the ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of bike basic mechanics
- Excellent communication skills to engage learners and facilitate interactive sessions.
- A passion for cycling and promoting sustainable transportation methods is highly desirable. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy sharing their expertise, inspiring others, and contributing positively to community initiatives centred around cycling.
This role involves working in schools to carry out the bike maintenance course, representing 1st Step Education and Training. Adhering to our safeguarding policies.
