Job Summary
We are looking to appoint a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced 1:1 Support Assistant to work within our preschool room, supporting a child with additional needs on a one-to-one basis.
This role is to provide consistent, individualised support to enable the child to fully access the setting, activities, and daily routines in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment. The child’s needs are predominantly physical, so confidence in supporting mobility and personal care is essential.
Duties
- Provide 1:1 support tailored to the child’s individual needs
- Assist with mobility, including helping the child get up and down stairs
- Support safe transfers in and out of a wheelchair
- Encourage and support participation in daily routines and activities
- Promote the child’s independence, confidence, and inclusion
- Work closely with the SENCO, staff team, and external professionals
- Follow and implement care plans and risk assessments
Essential Requirements:
- Level 3 Early Years qualification
- Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
- Proven experience supporting children with SEND, particularly physical needs
- Ability to carry out physical aspects of the role safely and appropriately
- A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education principles and techniques is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with individuals of varying needs.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a nurturing attitude towards vulnerable populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also demonstrating initiative independently.
Desirable:
- Experience with manual handling (training can be provided)
- Experience working in an early years or preschool setting
- Relevant qualifications or training in special education or related fields are beneficial but not mandatory.
