Store Supervisor — Yummies Deli (Mill Hill, NW7)
Full-time | £14.50 per hour | Including weekends and public holidays
About us
Yummies is a Jewish-style deli and bakery at the heart of Mill Hill, built on strong community roots and honest, well-made food. We're not a chain and we're not a restaurant — we're a neighbourhood deli where regulars know the staff by name and staff know the community they're serving. We're proud of our Jewish and Ashkenazi food heritage, and we're looking for someone who wants to be part of that story, not just work a shift.
The role
We're looking for a warm, capable Store Supervisor to help lead our floor day to day. Because we don't currently have an Assistant Store Manager on site, this role will also pick up a good share of that responsibility — so it's a genuine step up for someone ready to grow into more ownership of a shop, not just a shift-leader role.
You'll be the person the team looks to when things get busy: calm, fair, hands-on, and able to hold high standards without losing the warmth that makes a deli feel like a deli. Strong communication skills and real empathy matter here as much as operational know-how — you'll be dealing with a loyal, engaged customer base and a team that needs clear, kind leadership.
What you'll be doing:
Leading the floor
- Lead shifts independently — allocating tasks, covering front-of-house and production areas, and keeping things running smoothly during busy periods
- Act as the on-shift point of contact, communicating clearly at handovers, briefs, and end-of-day updates
- Support onboarding and ongoing training of new team members, and help with coaching and informal performance conversations
- Set the tone for teamwork, professionalism, and hospitality — leading by example, not just instruction
Customer & community
- Deliver warm, genuine customer interactions — this is a community shop, and regulars notice who remembers them
- Manage queues and service flow during peak times without letting quality or warmth slip
- Handle customer feedback and concerns directly, with empathy, and know when to escalate
- Keep the shop welcoming, tidy, and presentation-ready at all times
Operations
- Oversee daily checklists, opening/closing routines, and cash-up procedures
- Support rota planning, staffing allocation, and labour efficiency
- Coordinate stock rotation, replenishment, and communication with the bakery and kitchen
- Maintain strong merchandising and displays
- Monitor waste and stock levels, and support actions that protect profitability
- Report maintenance, equipment, or hazard issues promptly
Food safety & compliance
- Ensure hygiene, allergen, and food safety procedures are followed on every shift
- Conduct on-shift hygiene and safety checks
- Keep all FOH and back-of-house areas clean, safe, and compliant
What we're looking for
- Previous supervisory or team-leading experience in retail, deli, bakery, or food service — you don't need a restaurant or hotel background, but you do need to have led people before
- Genuinely strong communication skills and people skills — you'll set the tone for how customers and staff experience the shop
- Empathy and patience, paired with the confidence to hold standards and make decisions under pressure
- Comfortable with hands-on operational tasks: cash handling, stock, scheduling, checklists
- Reliable, well-presented, and happy working full-time including weekends and public holidays
- An interest in — or willingness to learn about — Jewish and Ashkenazi food culture is a genuine plus, given how central it is to who we are
Why join us
This is a chance to take real ownership of a shop with character, in a business that's actively investing in its identity and its people. You'll be trusted with responsibility beyond a typical supervisor role, working closely with the General Manager and Operations Manager, with room to grow as the business grows.
