Job Summary
Amaanah Academy is looking for a reliable, engaging and committed volunteer teacher to join our Saturday school team for the 2026/27 academic year.
You will teach Islamic Studies to children aged 6–14 in a warm, structured and supportive environment. Teachers can express preferences for particular age groups and subjects, and these will be taken into account when allocating classes. Subjects taught are the following: Qur'an, Tafsir, Fiqh, Manners, Sirah.
We provide textbooks, lesson materials and guidance to support your teaching, so you do not need to be an expert in every Islamic subject before joining us. What matters most is that you are engaging, enthusiastic and motivated to help young children learn and develop a love for Islam.
Before leading your own classes, you will have the opportunity to shadow experienced teachers and become familiar with our teaching style and curriculum. Most lessons also have a Teaching Assistant who will be available to support you in the classroom.
Consistency and punctuality are very important to us. Students rely on their teachers being present and ready to begin on time each Saturday, so we are looking for someone who can commit reliably throughout the academic year.
The role runs during term time only, so teachers are not required to attend during Amaanah Academy school holidays.
Main Duties
- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons.
- Arrive on time and be ready to teach from the start of the school day.
- Create a positive, respectful and well-managed classroom environment.
- Encourage students to participate, ask questions and develop confidence.
- Follow Amaanah Academy’s safeguarding, behaviour and teaching policies.
- Attend relevant staff meetings and training.
Minimum Requirements
- Available Saturdays from 9:30am–2:30pm during term time.
- Able to commit from September 2026 to June 2027.
- Reliable, punctual and committed to regular attendance.
- Confident and comfortable managing groups of children.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willing to complete safeguarding training and required safer-recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check where applicable.
Good to Have
- Previous teaching, tutoring, mentoring or youth-work experience.
- Experience working with children aged 6–14.
- Knowledge in areas such as Fiqh, Sirah, Tafsir, Qur’an or Manners.
