We're looking for a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at The Duke—a well-established, neighbourhood pub with a village feel in the heart of Wanstead.
Known for our seasonal menus, exceptional Sunday roasts, private events and warm hospitality, we're proud to be an independent business that genuinely cares about great food, great people and doing things properly.
If you're an experienced Sous Chef, Senior Sous Chef, or an ambitious Junior Sous ready to step up, we'd love to hear from you.
About You
You'll be passionate about cooking with the best seasonal ingredients and enjoy working in a busy fresh-food kitchen where quality comes first.
You'll have:
- At least 5 years' experience in professional kitchens
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Sous Chef or strong Junior Sous
- Experience in a busy gastro pub or quality restaurant environment
- Excellent knowledge of modern cooking techniques
- A passion for seasonal, farm-to-table cooking
- Strong organisational and leadership skills
- A calm, hands-on approach during busy services
- High standards of food quality, consistency and presentation
- A valid Food Hygiene Certificate

The Role
Working alongside our Head Chef and senior management team, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Head Chef in delivering consistently high-quality food
- Leading the kitchen during service
- Supervising, motivating and developing junior chefs
- Maintaining excellent food safety and hygiene standards
- Managing stock, ordering and reducing waste
- Helping develop seasonal menus and specials
- Ensuring every dish leaves the kitchen to the highest standard
