Overview
Woodlands is a small friendly care Home providing care for twenty-three elderly residents with a food hygiene rating of 5 from the Food Standards Agency. We have a spacious modern kitchen with the latest equipment, making your role an enjoyable and comfortable experience. We are seeking a passionate, friendly, chef or cook, to join our existing team, whilst also being able to work independently. The ideal candidate will need to have a strong background in traditional home style cooking, food preparation and food hygiene safety. They will need to be organised and familiar with working in a kitchen environment and share a deep understanding of being able to meet the needs of our elderly residents and their personal preferences. This will involve engaging with our residents by offering taster sessions to establish new, or seasonal menu choices. Support from our existing Chefs with menu choices and planning will be provided. You will be responsible for ensuring that all main dishes, deserts and light snacks are prepared and presented to the highest standards and that each residents food choices and preferences are met at all times. You will need to ensure a safe, clean and efficient working environment is maintained at all times. Food Hygiene training and Chefs Whites will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily running of the kitchen, ensuring a smooth workflow and high-quality food preparation.
- Lead other team members where needed, manage your own time well and remain organised throughout the day.
- Assist with innovative menu planning that reflects seasonal ingredients and culinary trends.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain cleanliness in the kitchen at all times.
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, demonstrating culinary expertise and creativity.
- Monitor food presentation to ensure it is being served to a high standard.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a chef or cook in a similar role within a Care Home setting or within the hospitality, restaurant industry.
- Have strong leadership and good communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate other team members effectively, whilst also being able to work independently.
- Have a clear underpinning knowledge of food hygiene safety practices, and culinary techniques.
- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in food preparation and presentation and discuss with residents their choices and preferences.
- Have a passion for cooking with a creative flair for developing new ideas and try new recipes.
