Overview
AlansBMX are seeking a friendly and motivated Sales & Workshop Assistant to join our dynamic BMX Bike Shop team. This role involves providing exceptional customer service, supporting workshop operations, and assisting with merchandising efforts. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, organisational abilities, and a passion for bicycles and cycling culture.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and assist them in selecting bikes, accessories, and merchandise
- Provide knowledgeable advice on bike maintenance, repairs, and upgrades
- Support the workshop team with basic tasks such as organising parts and assisting with repairs under supervision
- Maintain attractive merchandise displays and ensure the shop floor is tidy and well-stocked
- Upsell products and services to maximise sales opportunities while ensuring customer satisfaction
- Handle phone enquiries professionally, providing information about products and services
- Manage sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system
- Building BMX bikes from box to ride-ready
- Flat-packing BMX bikes for delivery/storage
What We're Looking For
- A genuine interest in BMX and/or bikes generally
- Comfortable talking to customers face-to-face and on the phone
- Practical, hands-on, and happy learning bike-building skills
- Reliable, punctual, and a team player
- Previous retail or bike shop experience is a bonus but not essential — full training given on the workshop side
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively
- Basic maths skills for handling transactions and stock counts
- Good time management to prioritise tasks efficiently during busy periods
- Friendly phone etiquette for engaging with customers over the phone
- Experience in retail, merchandising, or customer service is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided
- Ability to work well within a team in a fast-paced environment
- Passion for cycling or BMX biking is highly desirable
