About Us
The Horniman Museum and Gardens is a unique attraction in south east London where global cultures and the natural world are brought together for everyone to enjoy. The Museum holds internationally important collections of anthropology and musical instruments, as well as a popular natural history gallery and Aquarium. The 16 acres of beautiful Gardens feature a tropical Butterfly House and offer stunning views across London.
About the Role
- We are looking for a Horticulturalist to work with our Head of Horticulture and a small dedicated, passionate team of gardeners to continue to take the gardens forward. Climate, ecology and biodiversity guide our practice. We work to connect our visitors with nature through innovative planting that is linked to the collections and exhibitions inside the museum. You will also work as required on the routine maintenance of our Gardens, waste management, plant propagation and Nursery work.
About You
- You’ll have an excellent knowledge of plants and horticultural techniques, a passion for the craft of horticulture and an eye for detail. As the Horniman is a busy visitor attraction you’ll also have experience of working with the public and be able to present a warm and friendly welcome to the Gardens.
Key Qualities, Skills, and Experience
- You will have significant experience of gardening in a public park or gardens, an RHS Level 2 diploma in horticulture or equivalent and experience working alongside volunteers.
The closing date for completed applications is 10am on 09 August 2026. Interviews will be held on 31 August 2026.
The Horniman is an equal opportunities employer and we value and celebrate diversity. We want to better represent the communities in which we work but recognise that there is still much work to do in this area. We welcome and encourage all applicants and particularly encourage you to apply if you are from a community that is often disadvantaged by society or of minority background.
