Role Purpose
The Centre Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, commercial performance, and day-to-day operation of Southgate Hockey Centre Limited. The role ensures the centre operates as a high-performing, safe, and financially sustainable sports facility, balancing club needs with commercial opportunities to maximise revenue and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Leadership
- Lead the day-to-day running of the hockey centre, ensuring facilities, pitches, clubhouse, and grounds are maintained to a high standard
- Manage site operations including opening/closing, scheduling, and service delivery
- Oversee maintenance programmes, contractors, and asset management
- Address gaps in maintenance capability and ensure long-term facility sustainability
2. Commercial & Financial Management
- Working with the Centre Chairman, P&L responsibility for the centre
- Drive revenue through:
- Pitch hire optimisation and pricing strategy
- Events, tournaments, corporate bookings and private hire
- Bar and kitchen sales
- Ancillary income streams (e.g. parking, kitchen, partnerships)
- Identify and develop new revenue opportunities (e.g. sponsorship, partnerships)
- Manage budgets, cost control, and financial reporting
3. Strategic Development
- Develop and deliver a centre business plan aligned to SHCL and club priorities
- Balance club usage vs. commercial income generation to optimise overall value
- Lead improvement initiatives to enhance customer experience and site utilisation
- Support long-term investment planning and funding opportunities
4. Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for:
- The Trust, Club committees and members of home clubs
- Local partners, schools, and community groups
- Ensure a high-quality customer experience across all users
- Manage feedback and continuously improve the centre offer
5. People & Team Leadership
- Lead, develop, and manage all centre staff (including marketing, bar, maintenance, and operational teams)
- Recruit, train, and retain a high-performing team
- Foster a positive culture focused on service, accountability, and continuous improvement
6. Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with:
- Health & Safety legislation
- Safeguarding requirements
- Data protection and club policies
- Maintain site safety standards and risk management processes

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven leadership experience in leisure, sports, or facilities management
- Strong commercial acumen with budget and P&L responsibility
- Experience managing operational teams and multi-functional environments
- Ability to drive revenue growth and identify new opportunities
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Desirable
- Experience within a sports club or hockey environment
- Knowledge of governing body requirements (e.g. England Hockey)
- Facilities or project management qualifications
- Experience with capital investment or site development projects

Reporting Line
Reports to: SHCL Board / Directors
Pay: £40,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
