Sheet Metal Worker - Ductwork Fabrication
We are seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Worker to fabricate high-quality ventilation ductwork in accordance with DW/144 standards. The successful candidate will be skilled in interpreting detailed fabrication drawings and producing ductwork accurately, safely, and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate rectangular, circular, and bespoke ductwork to DW/144 specifications.
- Read and interpret detailed technical drawings, fabrication drawings, and specifications.
- Measure, mark out, cut, fold, form, assemble, and finish sheet metal components.
- Operate workshop machinery and hand tools, including guillotines, folders, rollers, lockformers, plasma cutters, and spot welders.
- Manufacture bends, transitions, reducers, offsets, branches, plenums, and other ductwork fittings.
- Fit flanges, stiffeners, supports, seals, and reinforcements as required.
- Check dimensions, tolerances, pressure classifications, and finished quality against drawings and job specifications.
- Minimise material waste and meet production targets.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum five years' experience in sheet metal work and ductwork fabrication.
- Proven experience fabricating ductwork to DW/144 standards.
- Ability to read, understand, and work accurately from detailed drawings.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication methods, ductwork fittings, joints, flanges, stiffening, and sealing requirements.
- Competence using relevant workshop machinery, power tools, and hand tools.
- Ability to work accurately with minimal supervision.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Sound understanding of workplace health and safety.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with galvanised steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and mild steel.
- Welding, brazing, or soldering experience.
- Experience fabricating ductwork for different pressure classes and air leakage requirements.
- Relevant sheet metal fabrication qualifications or trade certification.
Working Conditions
This is a workshop-based position involving manual handling, prolonged standing, machinery operation, and the use of personal protective equipment. Working hours, pay, overtime, and benefits will be discussed during the recruitment process.
Pay: £12.71-£18.00 per hour
