Surfacing Operative
S&D 2011 Ltd are one of the preferred surfacing contractors working for a variety of high-profile clients in the commercial sector, including government and local authorities. We are seeking an experienced and reliable Surfacing Operative to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a skilled surfacing gang delivering high-quality asphalt and tarmac works across highways, footways and commercial projects.
The Role / Responsibilities
- Carry out asphalt and tarmac surfacing works on highways, roads, footways and private sites.
- Lay, rake and compact asphalt to the required levels and specifications.
- Assist with both machine-laid and hand-laid surfacing operations.
- Operate surfacing equipment, including pavers, rollers, vibrating plates, Stihl saws and breakers.
- Prepare work areas by carrying out breaking out, excavation and cleaning activities.
- Complete patching, reinstatement and remedial surfacing works to a high standard.
- Work safely around plant, machinery and live traffic environments.
- Carry out daily checks on plant and equipment, reporting any defects promptly.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working area.
- Work effectively as part of a surfacing gang to meet daily productivity and quality targets.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and site management while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
- Comply with all Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments, method statements and wear the appropriate PPE at all times.
- Be flexible to undertake day, night and weekend works when required.
- Demonstrate a committed and enthusiastic approach to S&D 2011 Ltd and work collaboratively in all aspects of the business.
Essential Skills
- Class 2 (Category C) Driving Licence: Must hold a valid Class 2 licence.
- Surfacing Experience: Proven experience in asphalt and tarmac surfacing operations.
- Street Works Qualification: NRSWA qualification preferred for working on the public highway.
- Plant & Equipment Experience: Competent in operating surfacing equipment and associated tools.
- Health & Safety Awareness: Good understanding of safe working practices within highways and construction environments.
Desirable
- Roller or Plant Competency Certificates.
- First Aid at Work (3-Day).
- Manual Handling Certification.
- Additional HGV or plant qualifications.
Location
Yeovil and surrounding areas.
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work evenings, nights and weekends when required.
Pay: £180.00-£220.00 per day
