About the Role

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer (m/f/d) to provide technical leadership across our software engineering initiatives.
You will work closely with engineers, product specialists, business stakeholders, and delivery teams to shape technical direction and deliver robust software solutions. This is a hands-on senior role for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, improving development practices, and mentoring experienced and developing engineers.
You will have significant influence over architecture, engineering standards, technical decisions, and the long-term evolution of our software platforms.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction on complex software initiatives and help establish engineering standards, patterns, and best practices.
Software Architecture: Design and evaluate scalable software architectures that meet business, performance, security, and reliability requirements.
Hands On Engineering: Contribute directly to the development of critical software components and help resolve technically challenging issues.
Code Quality: Promote clean, maintainable, testable code through code reviews, automated testing, documentation, and engineering standards.
Team Mentoring: Mentor software engineers across different experience levels and support the development of strong technical capabilities within the team.
Technical Collaboration: Work with product, business analysis, infrastructure, security, and delivery teams to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve development workflows, engineering tools, application performance, and overall software delivery practices.
What We Are Looking For
Experience: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial experience designing and delivering production software systems.
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of software architecture, application development, APIs, databases, cloud platforms, and modern engineering practices.
Programming: Strong experience with one or more modern programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
Architecture: Demonstrated experience designing scalable, maintainable, and secure software solutions.
Leadership: Experience mentoring engineers, conducting technical reviews, and influencing engineering decisions without relying on formal executive authority.
Problem Solving: You approach complex technical problems methodically and can balance long term engineering quality with practical delivery requirements.
Communication: You can explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non technical stakeholders and confidently contribute to architectural and business discussions.
Mindset: You are pragmatic, technically curious, collaborative, and committed to building software that delivers measurable value.
Pay: £69,800.00-£77,400.00 per year
