Shirley’s is looking for an experienced Barista to join our friendly team in Thatto Heath, St Helens.
This is not an entry level position. Applicants must already be confident working independently on a commercial coffee machine and producing consistently high quality drinks during busy service

The role
You will be responsible for
- Dialling in espresso and monitoring extraction throughout the day
- Producing consistent espresso based drinks
- Texturing milk correctly for different drinks
- Preparing latte art to a good standard
- Preparing Japanese matcha (although not essential) and speciality matcha drinks correctly
- Maintaining speed and quality during busy periods
- Keeping the coffee and drinks station clean, stocked and organised
- Cleaning and maintaining the espresso machine and grinders
- Supporting front of house when required
- Providing warm and professional customer service
Essential experience
You must have
- At least 1-2 years recent barista experience
- Hands on experience using a commercial espresso machine
- Confidence dialling in espresso without constant supervision
- Strong milk texturing skills
- Experience working efficiently during busy service
- Good knowledge of coffee machine cleaning and maintenance
- A reliable, positive and team focused attitude
- Weekend availability
Experience preparing matcha is preferred, although specific training on our products and recipes will be provided.
Please do not apply if your only experience is making coffee at home, completing a short course, operating an automatic machine or working in a role without regular hands on barista responsibilities
Pay is from £10.85 per hour depending age and experience, Hours are part time or full time as required, Location: Shirley’s, 122 Thatto Heath Road, St Helens, WA9 5PE
