The successful candidate will join a dynamic and forward thinking department with a reputation for research and education. The General Critical Care Unit (GCC) has 30 physical beds and manages over 1600 admissions per year from medical and surgical specialties. The Department delivers perioperative care to around 44,000 elective and emergency patients. The Trust offers tertiary surgical services to cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, vascular surgery and renal transplant services. There is a separate Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit (CTCC) with 22 physical beds.
- To provide and further develop critical care services, and any other specialty for which the appointed candidate provides input. The appointed candidate will work in collaboration with colleagues in all disciplines to provide an integrated and high quality service for patients.
- To actively participate in the teaching and training of resident doctors and allied healthcare professionals.
- To take part in the general activities of consultants at the Trust – teaching, clinical governance, administration, management etc. This will be done by personal development into appropriate roles depending on the consultants’ particular interests and aptitudes.
- To support and develop innovative improvements within the department and the Trust in order to maintain and improve the quality of patient care.
