The Ian Mosey Group are a family owned and operated business consisting of three companies, the parent company Ian Mosey Ltd, and two subsidiary companies Ian Mosey (Livestock) Ltd and Ian Mosey (Feed) Ltd.
Ian Mosey (Livestock) Ltd principal activity is breeding and finishing pigs for the UK pork industry. Ian Mosey (Feed) Ltd manufacture and supply pig, poultry, cattle, sheep and game compound feed to both external customers and to our internal B&B farm base.
Pig Supply Chain Planner
This is a key planning and coordination role within the Ian Mosey Livestock team, responsible for supporting the efficient movement of pigs across our integrated farming network.
Working as part of the planning team, you will help coordinate over 40,000 pig movements each week, ensuring piglets and store pigs are placed appropriately and that daily movement plans are communicated and delivered effectively.
The role requires someone who is highly organised, confident working with detail, and able to make practical decisions using information from farmers, suppliers, fields staff and transport teams. Strong communication and the ability to adapt to changing priorities are essential, alongside a commitment to maintaining high standards of welfare, performance and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Piglet Placement
- Plan and allocate incoming piglets to appropriate nursery units, considering health status, farm infrastructure and capacity, and geographic location and transport efficiency
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with pig suppliers to ensure clear communication and smooth coordination of deliveries.
- Monitor weekly piglet intake volumes and adapt placements accordingly.
Store Pig Placement
- Plan and coordinate the movement of pigs from nursery to finishing farms.
- Match pig sources to suitable finishing accommodation, considering farm infrastructure, health status, performance and logistics.
- Use information from fields staff to validate planned movements and identify opportunities to optimise pig flow and performance.
Daily Plan Supervision
Once plans have been created, you will be responsible for ensuring they are delivered effectively and adapted where necessary.
Working closely with internal and external transport, field staff and farmers, you will:
- Create, communicate and manage loading and unloading plans.
- Provide clear instructions regarding pig type, batch information and movement requirements.
- Maintain a clear, live understanding of pig flows across the network, keeping closely in touch with what has moved, what is due to move, and where adjustments may be needed so that plans can be adapted effectively as circumstances change.
Skills & Experience
- Clear and professional communication skills.
- Strong organisational ability.
- Good numeracy skills and the ability to interpret data.
- Confident decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Competent with basic IT systems, including Excel.
- A practical understanding of pig production would be beneficial but is not essential. A willingness to learn and develop knowledge of the industry is, however, essential.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Candidate Profile
This role would suit someone who enjoys being at the centre of a busy, practical operation and is comfortable keeping track of several moving parts at once.
The successful candidate will need to be calm under pressure, confident communicating with a range of people, and able to make sensible decisions using the information available. They will need to be proactive, accurate and practical, with the ability to stay close to the detail while understanding the wider plan.
Previous experience in livestock production, planning, logistics or supply chain operations would be advantageous, but is not essential. More important is a willingness to learn, a practical mindset and a genuine interest in helping to deliver an efficient, well-coordinated pig supply chain.
This role is based in rural North Yorkshire. Due to the location and limited public transport links, a full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle are essential.
