Field Care Supervisor
Salary: £30,000 per year + £4,500 allowance (covering travel expenses, mileage, on-call responsibilities, and unsociable hours, excluding overnight stays)
Total Package: £34,500 per year
Location: Field-based (Basildon)
On-call: Participation in a remote on-call rota
Reports to: Registered Manager
Works closely with: Clinical Lead & Head of Training, Care Coordinator, Social Worker
Role Purpose
The Field Care Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining and improving the quality of care delivered in the field. The role combines hands-on supervision, care planning and risk assessment, practice monitoring, competency sign-off, field-based audits, and induction support, ensuring care is delivered in line with care plans, risk assessments, organisational policies and agreed standards.
The post holder provides visible leadership, identifies risks early, supports staff development, and works flexibly to ensure quality oversight across all service delivery times, including unsociable hours.
Key Responsibilities
Care Plans & Risk Assessments
- Write, review and update care plans and risk assessments as required
- Support the Registered Manager by completing care documentation in line with organisational standards
- Ensure care plans are person-centred, outcome-focused and reflective of assessed needs and risks
- Review care plans and risk assessments completed by other staff and identify areas for improvement
- Ensure changes in need or risk are communicated promptly to relevant staff
Field Supervision & Practice Monitoring
- Conduct planned and responsive spot checks, including evenings, nights and weekends where required
- Observe care delivery to ensure it aligns with care plans, risk assessments and expected standards
- Identify good practice, concerns and emerging risks
- Provide immediate, constructive feedback to staff following observations
- Escalate concerns appropriately to the Registered Manager or Clinical Lead
Supervision & Practice Support
- Complete staff supervisions and practice observations as directed
- Support staff to improve confidence, professionalism and quality of care delivery
- Reinforce expectations around conduct, boundaries and adherence to care plans
- Identify learning or development needs and escalate appropriately
Competency Oversight (Mandatory / Non-Clinical)
- Sign off mandatory domiciliary care competencies, including:
- Care delivery standards
- Documentation and record keeping
- Professional conduct and boundaries
- Infection prevention and control (non-clinical aspects)
- Ensure staff demonstrate competence before working independently
- Escalate clinical competency requirements to the Clinical Lead & Head of Training
Induction & Readiness to Practice
- Support the induction process by completing field-based observations and shadow shift sign-off
- Confirm staff readiness to work independently following induction and initial practice observation
- Escalate concerns regarding readiness or performance to the Registered Manager
Audits & Quality Assurance (Field-Based)
- Conduct field-based audits in line with the organisation’s audit programme, including:
- Care delivery practice
- Documentation quality
- Adherence to care plans and risk assessments
- Complete audit tools accurately and within required timescales
- Share audit findings with the Registered Manager and Compliance & Safeguarding Lead
- Support improvement actions arising from audit findings
Documentation & Practice Compliance
- Monitor care records to ensure accurate, timely and appropriate completion
- Identify documentation errors, omissions or trends and escalate appropriately
- Reinforce correct use of care recording systems and organisational documentation
PPE, Equipment & Infection Prevention Oversight
- Monitor availability and appropriate use of PPE in the field
- Check the condition and appropriate use of care-related equipment where applicable
- Reinforce infection prevention and control practices
- Identify equipment or safety risks and escalate for action
Safeguarding, Incidents & Risk Awareness
- Remain alert to safeguarding concerns identified during field visits
- Escalate safeguarding concerns immediately in line with organisational procedures
- Support information gathering where required following incidents or concerns
- Contribute to learning through feedback and practice improvement
Meetings & Stakeholder Engagement
- Attend relevant internal and external meetings as required, including:
- Reviews
- Planning meetings
- Multi-disciplinary discussions
- Provide quality and practice-based input to support decision-making
- Represent the organisation professionally when attending meetings
On-Call Responsibilities
- Participate in a remote on-call rota, providing operational and professional advice
- Support safe decision-making outside of standard working hours
- Escalate concerns appropriately in line with organisational procedures
Professional Standards & Culture
- Act as a role model for professional, respectful and person-centred care
- Promote a culture of openness, accountability and continuous improvement
- Challenge poor practice constructively and in line with organisational procedures
Additional Responsibilities
The duties listed above are not exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the responsibilities of a Field Care Supervisor.
Essential Criteria
- Experience in a senior care, supervisory or field-based role
- Proven experience writing and reviewing care plans and risk assessments
- Experience signing off mandatory domiciliary care competencies
- Strong understanding of care standards, policies and person-centred practice
- Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and unsociable hours
- Willingness to travel regularly across service areas
- Confident communicator, able to challenge poor practice professionally
- Strong written and verbal reporting skills
Desirable
- Experience working across children’s and adults’ services
- Experience conducting audits or quality assurance activity
- Experience participating in an on-call rota
- Experience contributing to inspections or multi-agency meetings
