Registered Care Manager | Brand New Retirement Village | Later Living
Salary: £40,000 to £48,000 DOE, plus benefits
Location: Newport, Shropshire
Contract: Full time, permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, no weekend working required
The Opportunity
This is a rare one: a genuinely new care service, built from the ground up, inside a brand new retirement village. Compass Associates is partnering with an innovative Integrated Retirement Community (IRC) operator to find the Registered Care Manager who'll lead the care service at a brand new village in Shropshire.
You'll report to the Nominated Individual, working closely day to day with the Village General Manager under a "one village, one team" culture, effectively acting as their right hand. Residents will largely be independent in the early stages, with care needs light to start, so this isn't a role where you're firefighting from day one. It's a role where you get the space to recruit your team, get the culture right, and lay foundations that will grow with the village over time.
What You'll Be Doing
Leading the care service from launch, owning it as your own
Acting as CQC Registered Manager, taking the registration through to completion once the village is open and staffed, targeted for autumn
Recruiting, training and developing your team, including dual role carer/housekeepers
Rolling your sleeves up in the early days, from hands on care to supporting wider village life, whatever that looks like day to day
Building real relationships with residents and families, and growing care provision organically as needs develop
Overseeing care planning, risk assessments and quality audits, and investigating complaints, incidents and safeguarding concerns
Working closely with the operations team and contributing to wider village life, from resident settling in to community events
Who This Suits
An established Registered Manager, or a strong Deputy ready for their first registration, who wants a blank page rather than someone else's problems to fix, and who's genuinely happy being hands on while the service finds its feet. Background is flexible, residential, domiciliary, extra care, supported living or retirement living are all welcome.
You'll need:
A regulated care background and in depth knowledge of CQC regulations and inspection frameworks
NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
Strong commercial instincts, comfortable building relationships that naturally grow care provision over time
A leadership style built on relationships, not just rotas
Genuine flexibility and a team player mindset, happy to pitch in beyond the job description in the early stages
Location
Based in Newport, Shropshire. Easily commutable from Telford, Shrewsbury, Stafford, Market Drayton, Wolverhampton, Cannock, Chester, Stoke on Trent, Wrexham and surrounding areas (around 45 minutes).
Why This One's Different
Most Registered Manager roles ask you to inherit someone else's systems, culture and shortcuts. This one asks you to create them, in a small, personal organisation where you're heard rather than treated as a number. You'll have real autonomy, direct access to senior leadership, no weekend working, and a service that will carry your fingerprints for years to come.
Interview Process
Stage One: Initial call with the Director of Care Quality and Compliance
Stage Two: Face to face meeting with operational and care leadership
Stage Three: Final informal conversation with senior leadership
