Project Officer - Fixed-Term Role for 12 Months.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and ambitious Programme Management Office (PMO), supporting a diverse portfolio of transformation, service improvement, digital and organisational change projects. You'll gain exposure to senior leaders, work across a variety of services and develop valuable project management skills while contributing to projects that improve outcomes for the people of Salford.
Whether you are looking to build on existing project experience or take the next step in your project management career, you'll be supported through mentoring, coaching and development opportunities within a professional and supportive PMO environment.
About you
Our PMO supports a broad portfolio of strategic and operational programmes, ranging from digital transformation and service redesign to organisational change and improvement initiatives. As demand for project management support continues to grow across the council, this role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience across a wide range of projects while helping deliver positive change for residents and communities.
We are looking for proactive, organised and curious individuals who enjoy solving problems, working collaboratively and supporting the delivery of complex projects. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, balancing competing priorities whilst maintaining attention to detail and a strong focus on outcomes.
You will be keen to learn and develop professionally, embracing new ways of working and using project management approaches to help teams successfully deliver change.
About the role

Support the Project Manager and/or Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) in the successful delivery of projects and workstreams.

Maintain project plans, milestones, actions and governance documentation.

Support project reporting and communications for Programme Boards, senior leaders and wider stakeholders.

Maintain RAID logs, ensuring risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies and decisions are effectively managed and monitored.

Support benefits tracking and realisation activities to demonstrate project outcomes.

Co-ordinate meetings, workshops and stakeholder engagement activities.

Monitor project performance, progress and delivery milestones, escalating concerns where appropriate.

Work collaboratively with colleagues across the council and partner organisations to support successful project delivery.

Prioritise competing demands and work flexibly to support a varied portfolio of projects.

The role operates on a hybrid basis, combining office-based and remote working in line with service requirements.
You’ll be able to build strong relationships and generate positive collaboration, whilst always staying focused on outcomes. You need to be comfortable to work at pace whilst providing high-quality project support.
You will be working with senior officers across the organisation and will act as the first point of contact for your project, working closely with the Project Managers and the wider team. You will manage administrative support for this project, and provide support for the effective planning, co-ordination, governance and delivery of the overall programme.
