Hours: 16 per week, Thursday and Friday
We are seeking a reliable, detail‑focused Bookeeper to support the day‑to‑day financial administration of our construction business, while also providing general reception and office support and supporting human resources functions. This is a varied, hands‑on role purchase ledger, accounts, VAT, job costing, compliance and front‑of‑house duties. The ideal candidate will have experience within construction or a similar trade‑based environment and be confident dealing with both finance tasks and customer enquiries.
Key Responsibilities
Finance & Payroll
- Handling purchase ledger, supplier invoices and payments
- Chasing outstanding debts and managing credit control
- Performing stock control and reconciliations
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns, including reverse VAT
- Producing job costings and weekly financial reports
- Monitoring cashflow and reporting on monies owed
- Calculating and processing end‑of‑year depreciation
- Managing CITB levy returns and grant claims
- Liaising with insurance companies regarding claims
- Producing management reports as required
Additional Responsibilities
Reception & Administration
- Answering incoming calls and directing queries appropriately
- Taking accurate messages and ensuring timely follow‑up
- Booking in clients appointments
- Typing letters, emails and general correspondence
- Maintaining organised digital and paper filing systems
- Supporting the wider office team with day‑to‑day admin tasks
- Greeting visitors and providing a professional front‑of‑house service
Experience
- Proven experience in accounting roles, ideally within a similar organisational setting
- Strong data entry skills with high accuracy levels
- Knowledge of accounts payable processes and financial analysis techniques
- Background in human resources functions related to payroll and employee record management is advantageous
- Excellent organisational skills combined with the ability to analyse complex data sets effectively
