Springfield Nursery (Aughton), is looking to recruit a part time cook/chef with a caring nature and positive attitude to join our supportive friendly nursery. We are a busy nursery which caters for 115 children per day and you will need to be able to cater for a variety of needs and dietary requirements. All meals are already planned and food is ordered. Support and guidance are given.
Days and hours are: Wed, Thur, Fri - 21 hours
Varying 7.5 hour shifts (half hour break included in shift) between the hours: 8.30am - 5.30pm - 2 week shift pattern
Our nursery is open from 7.45am – 6pm, Monday to Fridays – no weekend work - 52 weeks
You would be part of a team of 3. Our Head of Kitchen creates the menus, orders the food and manages the kitchen. We have a 3-week menu which changes seasonally.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- To organise, cook and prepare healthy, balanced meals for a maximum of 115 children per day aged 0 to 5 years in accordance with our nursery menus.
- Ensure high standards of hygiene and health and safety is maintained in the kitchen at all times
- Cater for children who have special allergies and dietary requirements and preparing suitable and safe alternatives.
- Use appropriate documents such as Safer Food, Better Business
- To have the responsibility of the kitchen, cleaning all of the equipment and appliances, take temperatures of the food, fridge and freezer and record these in the kitchen file.
- Day to day running of the kitchen, compliance with registration and legislative requirements at all times.
- Maintain and keep up to date necessary kitchen procedures and records in accordance with Nursery and Environmental Health policies and processes by Lancashire council
- Ensure the kitchen and equipment is kept to a high standard of cleanliness at all times including walls, floors and trolleys to transport food following a cleaning schedule. On a daily basis that all crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are washed in accordance with food safety guidelines.
- Ensure that all meals and snacks are ready at the specified time and correctly served.
Qualiciation and Skills:
It is essential to have:
- 12 months catering experience, preferable in a similar kitchen environment;
- Knowledge of food preparation for special dietary needs;
- Food and Hygeine certificate;
- DBS (enhanced criminal records check) - this can be obtained via the nursery prior to appointment
- 2 suitable references
Training and Development
Before working in Springfield you will need to complete additional short qualifications such as Allergen and Allergy Training and Safeguarding Children.
