Outbound Calling Executive

We are a growing community publishing business producing a network of local magazines and guides designed to support local businesses and strengthen communities.
Our publications connect residents with trusted local businesses and organisations, from tradespeople such as electricians, plumbers and builders to professional services, charities, councils and community groups.
By helping local businesses grow, we aim to create a positive cycle where businesses prosper, employ more people, and reinvest in their local communities.
We currently publish 10 magazines including the well-known Grapevine magazines in Halifax, along with titles in Knaresborough and Wetherby, and we are expanding into specialist guides such as childcare and senior care directories.
As we grow, we are building our first dedicated telephone outreach team to help introduce our publications to more businesses.
The Role
We are recruiting for a telephone-based sales role within our cold-calling team. This can combine two types of activity, involving speaking to local businesses and introducing them to our publications.
1. Outreach Caller
This party of the role focuses on initial contact with local businesses.
The purpose of the call is not to sell immediately, but simply to ask whether the business would be happy to receive information about advertising in one of our publications.
Responsibilities
- Make outbound calls to local businesses
- Introduce our publication in a friendly and professional way
- Ask whether the business would like to receive an information pack
- Collect contact details (name and email address)
- Ask whether they currently advertise elsewhere
- Send the relevant information pack by email
- Log activity in our CRM system
2. Follow-Up Sales Caller
This part of the role involves contacting businesses after they have received information about advertising.
Responsibilities
- Follow up with businesses who have received our information pack
- Ask whether they have had a chance to review it
- Discuss advertising opportunities
- Convert interest into advertising bookings where appropriate
- Record call outcomes and schedule follow-ups in the CRM system
Calls are friendly and conversational rather than aggressive sales calls.
Working Environment
We use a CRM system to manage contacts and follow-ups. This system shows:
- Who has been contacted
- Who requested information
- When to schedule follow-up calls
- Notes on previous conversations
The role involves working as part of a supportive team environment where success is shared.
Pay & Rewards
- Starting pay: Approximately £15 per hour
- Equivalent to around £30,000 per year full time
- Team-based performance bonuses linked to advertising sales
- Sales follow-up roles may earn higher bonuses
Working Hours

Monday to Friday
Call times may vary depending on the type of businesses being contacted. Some trades respond better to early morning calls, while sectors such as restaurants may be contacted later.
We are open to discussing preferred working patterns.
Outbound calling can involve making many calls before reaching someone, so a positive mindset is essential.
Candidates who maintain a cheerful tone tend to receive better responses from people on the other end of the phone.
