We are looking to appoint 2 Functional Skills Assessors to support adult learners working towards Maths and English qualifications up to Level 2.
We have two opportunities available:
Position 1: Full-time, 35.5 hours per week
Position 2: Part-time, 17.75 hours per week, working pattern can be discussed
Salary: Grade 3, £26,131 - £27,436 per annum
For the part-time post, salary will be £13,065 - £13,718 per annum for 17.75 hours.
Location: Doncaster College
This role includes a mix of onsite and online delivery/support. Please note this is not a fully remote role. All student exams are carried out onsite, so applicants must be able to attend Doncaster College as required.
About the role

We are seeking committed, organised and learner-focused Functional Skills Assessors to join our Adult Skills provision. This is a rewarding opportunity to support adult learners who are working towards Functional Skills Maths and English qualifications up to Level 2, including learners who may be returning to education or balancing study with work and family commitments.
You will play a key role in assessing learner progress, providing constructive feedback, supporting exam readiness and helping learners achieve their goals. You will also work closely with tutors, curriculum leaders and support teams to ensure learners receive a high-quality, supportive and inclusive learning experience.
This role would suit someone with experience in Functional Skills, adult learning, FE, apprenticeships, employability, GCSE Maths/English, ESOL, or a similar teaching, tutoring or assessing environment.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Assess learner work and progress in Functional Skills Maths and/or English up to Level 2
- Provide timely, constructive feedback and one-to-one guidance to support learner achievement
- Track learner attendance, progress and achievement in line with funding and quality requirements
- Support learners with exam preparation and readiness
- Maintain accurate learner records and complete relevant administrative tasks
- Support the quality assurance of Functional Skills delivery
- Work collaboratively with tutors, curriculum leaders and support teams to promote positive learner outcomes
- Use online learning tools and technology to support learner engagement and progress
- Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusive practice in all aspects of the role
What we are looking for
We are looking for applicants who can bring strong learner support, assessment and organisational skills to the role.
You should have:
- Minimum Level 2 qualification in Maths and English
- Experience of teaching, tutoring, assessing or supporting learners in Maths and/or English
- Experience within adult education, FE, apprenticeships, employability, Functional Skills, GCSE, ESOL or a similar learning environment
- An understanding of Functional Skills qualifications and assessment requirements, or strong transferable experience
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification
- A recognised teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one
- An assessor qualification, A/V Units, or relevant assessing experience
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, including accurate record keeping
- Confidence using IT and online learning tools, such as Microsoft Teams
- A commitment to supporting learners to build confidence, progress and achieve
- A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusive practice
Experience of online or blended delivery would be beneficial, although support and development can be provided for the right candidate.
