The Role
As Junior Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef to help lead the kitchen team, maintain exceptional food standards, and ensure smooth daily operations.
You will be a hands-on leader who leads by example, inspires colleagues, and is passionate about delivering consistently excellent food and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef and Sous Chef with all aspects of kitchen operations
- Lead and supervise kitchen staff during service
- Ensure food is prepared and presented to the highest standards
- Maintain consistency, quality, and portion control across all dishes
- Assist in menu development and seasonal specials
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and stock control
- Minimise waste and maximise kitchen efficiency
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations
- Conduct daily food safety checks and maintain accurate records
- Assist with staff training and development
- Help manage kitchen rotas and labour efficiency when required
- Support recruitment and onboarding of new team members
- Maintain a clean, organised, and professional kitchen environment
- Ensure excellent communication between kitchen and front-of-house teams
- Step into a leadership role in the absence of the Sous Chef or Head Chef
What We're Looking ForEssential
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie or Junior Sous Chef
- Strong understanding of fresh food preparation and service
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Knowledge of food safety and HACCP procedures
- Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining standards
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Passion for food and hospitality
- Strong communication and leadership potential
Desirable
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or higher)
- Experience within high-volume café, restaurant, or hospitality environments
- Previous experience supervising or training team members
- Understanding of stock control and GP management
