Protec Lifts Ltd / Protec Passive Fire – Earby / Nelson, Lancashire
Full-time | Permanent
Protec Lifts Ltd and Protec Passive Fire are expanding our passive fire protection and associated construction services.
We’re looking for a practical and reliable Multi-Skilled Construction & Passive Fire Operative to join the business and develop with us as this side of the company continues to grow.
Previous firestopping experience is not essential.
We’re particularly interested in someone who already has good basic construction skills and is comfortable using tools, measuring, cutting, drilling and fixing.
Full training in our passive fire systems and installation procedures will be provided.
The Role
The position will primarily involve passive fire protection works, including:
- Installation of passive fire protection systems
- Firestopping around service penetrations
- Firestopping around lift entrances and within lift shafts
- Installation of fire-rated boards
- Linear joint sealing
- Measuring, cutting, drilling and fixing
- Preparing openings and substrates
- Applying fire-rated sealants and associated products
- Taking photographs and recording completed installations
- Following specified installation details and manufacturer requirements
- General construction and making-good works
- Assisting with other lift-related construction works when required
The role will involve working within lift shafts, plant rooms, construction sites and occupied buildings.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re not necessarily looking for an experienced firestopper.
A background in any of the following would be particularly suitable:
- Joinery
- Drylining
- Plasterboarding
- Ceiling fixing
- Shopfitting
- Property maintenance
- General construction
- Building maintenance
- Mechanical installation
- Other practical trades
More importantly, we’re looking for someone who:
- Produces neat and accurate work
- Is confident using hand and power tools
- Can measure and cut accurately
- Pays attention to detail
- Can follow installation instructions
- Takes pride in their workmanship
- Is reliable and punctual
- Can work independently once trained
- Is willing to learn a specialist trade
- Is comfortable travelling and occasionally working away
A CSCS card would be advantageous, although training can be discussed for the right applicant.
A full UK driving licence is strongly preferred.
Passive Fire Training
Full training will be provided in-house in the passive fire protection systems we install.
Passive fire protection is a specialist and increasingly important part of the construction industry.
The successful applicant will be trained to correctly install and document compliant firestopping systems rather than simply working as a general labourer.
Attention to detail is therefore extremely important.
Longer-Term Opportunity
Protec Passive Fire is a growing part of our business and we’re looking for someone who can develop alongside it.
As the business develops, we’re keen to promote capable people internally and give them increasing responsibility.
What We Offer
- Full-time permanent employment
- Specialist passive fire training
- Career progression
- Overtime opportunities
- Company workwear and PPE
- Varied construction and engineering projects
- Opportunity to develop within a growing part of the company
- Additional training and qualifications as required
- Increased earning potential as skills and responsibilities develop
Location & Travel
We’re based around the Earby / Nelson area, with projects throughout the North West, Yorkshire and occasionally further afield.
Applicants must therefore be comfortable travelling.
