How you'll make a difference:
In this varied and rewarding role as Specialist Public Health Practitioner, you will help shape and deliver new public health programmes that improve outcomes for residents across South Gloucestershire. Working collaboratively across the council and with partner organisations, you will help reduce health inequalities and deliver programmes in a variety of settings.
The team is comprised of professional staff who lead in specific areas of public health within the following programme areas:

We would welcome applicants with knowledge and experience of working in the above areas, however, our new “Ways of Working” has a focus on working across the division to ensure cross cutting themes are addressed.
What you will be doing:
- Using your specialist public health knowledge and expertise, you will lead the development and delivery of targeted programmes in communities and populations experiencing the greatest health inequalities. Through a range of evidence-based approaches, you will contribute to improving health outcomes and reducing disparities across the local population.

You will be responsible for reviewing and interpreting evidence, undertaking needs assessments, and analysing data to identify priorities and inform the planning, development and delivery of future initiatives.

Applying your specialist knowledge and professional judgement, you will develop innovative approaches to addressing public health challenges, ensuring that outcomes are effectively monitored, evaluated and used to drive continuous improvement.

A key aspect of your role will be providing specialist advice and guidance to professionals, practitioners and frontline workers across a range of settings, including workplaces, schools and community organisations.

Through the design and delivery of training and education, you will support practitioners and the wider public health workforce to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to improve health outcomes within their respective roles.
What we need from you:
- It is essential that you hold a relevant degree and professional qualification, such as MSc in Public Health, a BSc in Environmental Health, or an equivalent relevant qualification. Alternatively, you will be able to demonstrate equivalent experience in a public health, education, sports related science, or social science field.

You will have experience of working with individuals and groups, including planning, organising and facilitating training, workshops or education sessions within a relevant setting.

We are looking for someone with experience of working collaboratively with local communities, practitioners, and partner organisations to design and deliver projects, alongside the ability to build effective working relationships.
- You will be able to make informed decisions and effectively prioritise your workload and projects to meet agreed objectives and deadlines, whether working independently or as part of a wider team.

Given the nature of the work, you must have experience of managing, analysing and interpreting data and performance information, using evidence and insights to identify opportunities for improvement and support effective decision-making.
What you need to know:
- This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Badminton Road, Yate and working from home.
