Workshop Bench Technician — Radio
CSE Crosscom · St Neots, Cambridgeshire · Full Time, Permanent
Full UK driving licence — essential
The role
We're looking for an experienced workshop bench technician to join our radio team in St Neots. This is a varied, hands-on role spanning workshop repairs and servicing, radio programming for hire and event work, and sales support — with the occasional requirement to get out on-site when the job demands it.
You'll need to be flexible, organised under pressure, and comfortable switching between planned workshop tasks and the fast-paced turnaround that hire and event work brings. If you take pride in quality workmanship and thrive when no two days are the same, we'd like to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
- Carrying out fault diagnosis, repair, and servicing of two-way radio equipment across a range of brands and technologies
- Programming and configuring radios for hire and event work — often to tight deadlines and customer-specific requirements
- Preparing, testing, and turning around hire kit efficiently to meet event schedules
- Supporting the sales team with product demonstrations, technical queries, and pre-sale configuration
- Logging all work accurately through the workshop job management system
- Managing warranty returns and liaising with manufacturers where required
- Occasionally delivering or collecting equipment and providing on-site technical support at events — a full UK driving licence is essential for this
- Maintaining a well-organised, safe, and compliant workshop environment
What we're looking for
- Proven experience in a bench technician or similar electronics repair role, ideally within radio communications or a related sector
- Solid understanding of radio communication systems (VHF, UHF, DMR, analogue and digital)
- Competent with radio programming software and configuration tools across multiple brands
- Experience programming radios for hire fleets or event/production environments — the ability to work quickly and accurately under time pressure is key
- Flexible approach to work — hire and event schedules don't always fit neatly into standard hours, and we need someone who can adapt when required
- Full UK driving licence — essential
- Methodical approach to fault diagnosis with strong attention to detail
- Good communication skills — you'll deal directly with customers and event teams as well as the internal sales team
Nice to have
- Experience with Motorola, Hytera, Kenwood, or Icom product ranges
- Background in event, production, or broadcast radio hire
- Familiarity with Ofcom licensing or radio frequency compliance
What we offer
- Salary dependent on experience
- Full-time, permanent position based in St Neots
- A varied role — no two weeks are the same
- Supportive workshop environment with access to ongoing manufacturer training
- Opportunity to develop your skills across a broad range of radio products and event environments
Pay: From £25,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
