Large Animal Veterinary Receptionist
Richmond, North Yorkshire
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and confident Large Animal Receptionist to join our busy team at a thriving mixed veterinary practice.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, varied environment and has a genuine interest in large animal veterinary work.
You will be the first point of contact for our large animal and equine clients, providing a friendly, professional and efficient service while supporting our veterinary team with the smooth running of the practice.
The Role
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Answering telephone calls and dealing with client enquiries professionally and efficiently
- Booking appointments, farm visits and emergency callouts
- Liaising with farmers, clients, veterinary surgeons and other members of the practice team
- Managing a busy diary and prioritising urgent cases
- Processing prescriptions, laboratory samples and veterinary paperwork
- Taking payments and maintaining accurate client records
- Supporting vets with administrative tasks and ensuring they have the information they need
- Assisting with stock control and general reception duties
- Handling a high volume of calls and enquiries while maintaining excellent customer service
- Working as part of a close-knit team across the large and small animal departments
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, approachable and confident speaking with clients
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- An SQP qualification is desirable but not essential
- Able to remain calm and professional under pressure
- Comfortable working in a busy environment where priorities can change quickly
- A strong communicator and team player
- Confident using computers and learning new practice management systems
- Proactive, reliable and able to use their own initiative
- Ideally experienced within a veterinary, agricultural or farming environment
Knowledge of large animal veterinary work or experience working with farmers would be highly advantageous, although full training will be provided for the right candidate.

Working Hours
- Your standard working hours will be 32.25 hours averaged per week. With the flexibility to cover holidays and sickness.
- You will be required to work shifts within opening hours.
- You will also be part of the weekend rota which will include one Saturday a month.
- Salary depending on experience.
