Shift Pattern: Typically 2 days on, including sleep-ins, followed by 3 days off

Blue Compass Care is looking for a compassionate and dependable Residential Support Worker to join our team at our multi-bed children’s residential home in Manchester.
We support children and young people aged 7–17 with emotional and behavioural needs (EBD), providing a safe, nurturing and structured home environment where they can feel secure, develop confidence and work towards positive outcomes.
About the Role
As a Residential Support Worker, you will play an important part in the everyday lives of the children and young people in our care.
No two days will be exactly the same. You will support young people through their daily routines, achievements and challenges while helping to create a stable, caring and positive home environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing emotional support, care and encouragement to children and young people
- Building positive, trusting relationships through consistent and child-centred support
- Supporting young people with daily routines, education, meals, appointments and activities
- Encouraging independence, confidence and the development of practical life skills
- Supporting positive behaviour and helping young people manage difficult emotions and situations
- Taking young people to appointments, activities and community-based opportunities
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a safe, welcoming and nurturing home
- Following safeguarding procedures and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Contributing to individual care plans and supporting young people to achieve their goals
- Completing daily records, reports and other documentation accurately and professionally
- Taking part in evening, weekend and sleep-in shifts as part of the rota
What We're Looking ForEssential
- A genuine passion for working with children and young people aged 7–17
- A caring, patient and compassionate approach
- The ability to remain calm, professional and supportive during challenging situations
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A willingness to learn and develop within residential childcare
- The ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and sleep-in shifts
- A full UK driving licence, as you may be required to transport young people to appointments, activities and other commitments
Desirable (not necessary)
- Previous experience working in care, support work, residential childcare or with children and young people
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, or an equivalent recognised qualification
- A willingness to work towards the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare if not already qualified
- Experience supporting children or young people with emotional and behavioural needs
Previous residential childcare experience is beneficial, but we are also interested in candidates who have the right values, resilience and commitment to supporting young people.
Shift Pattern
The anticipated rota will typically operate on a 2 days on, 3 days off pattern and will include sleep-in shifts.
Rotas will be provided in advance to help you plan your time outside of work.
