LGV/HGV Mechanic
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced LGV/HGV Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of light and heavy goods vehicles to the highest safety and operational standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, proficiency with modern diagnostic equipment, and a commitment to maintaining accurate maintenance records.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, inspections, and repairs on LGV/HGV vehicles and trailers.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic faults using manufacturer-approved diagnostic equipment.
- Perform fault finding and rectification efficiently to minimise vehicle downtime.
- Complete MOT preparations and ensure vehicles comply with all DVSA and manufacturer standards.
- Repair or replace defective components including engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, steering, and electrical systems.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and road tests where required.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Accurately complete job cards, maintenance records, inspection reports, and service documentation.
- Record all work undertaken, parts used, and diagnostic findings using company maintenance systems.
- Liaise with workshop supervisors and fleet management to prioritise repairs and communicate vehicle status.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain high standards of workmanship.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as an LGV/HGV Mechanic or Commercial Vehicle Technician.
- Relevant mechanical qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, IMI, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of commercial vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical and electronic systems.
- Competent in using diagnostic software and electronic fault-finding equipment.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving and fault diagnosis skills.
- High level of attention to detail with accurate record-keeping and documentation skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential).
Desirable Qualifications
- IRTEC accreditation.
- Experience working on a mixed commercial vehicle fleet.
- HGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence.

Pay: £32,000.00-£53,204.58 per year
