Hildreths is looking for a knowledgeable, friendly part-time Sales Assistant to join our team. We're a busy independent hardware and DIY store, and our customers rely on us not just to sell them the right product but to give them good, practical advice — so this role is as much about knowing your stuff as it is about service.
The days
This is a fixed part-time role working every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Hours: 9am – 5pm
What you'll be doing
Serving customers on the shop floor and at the till, helping them find what they need and advising on the right products for their job, keeping shelves stocked, tidy and well-presented, handling deliveries and stock, and generally helping the shop run smoothly.
What we're looking for
The essential thing is genuine, relevant product knowledge — you should be comfortable advising customers across hardware and DIY lines such as tools, fixings and fastenings, paint and decorating, timber and building materials, plumbing and electrical basics. A knowledge of pet products is a bonus. Whether that knowledge comes from working in the trade, a previous retail role, or serious hands-on DIY experience matters less than being able to confidently point a customer in the right direction. Beyond that we're after a warm, approachable manner with customers, reliability and good timekeeping, the ability to stay on your feet and handle some lifting, and a genuine willingness to muck in as part of a small team.
