About Foresight
Foresight (North East Lincolnshire) Limited works with disabled adults, their families and carers throughout North and North East Lincolnshire. Through our day opportunities and community activities, we help the people we support to build confidence, develop independence and enjoy greater participation in their local community.
We are seeking reliable and friendly volunteers to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to contribute to the wellbeing of disabled adults while developing practical experience in a welcoming and supportive setting.
What You'll Be Doing
This is a varied role split between supporting on our transport and helping at our day centre.
You will travel with our driver on the regular route between Grimsby and Scunthorpe, helping passengers have a safe and comfortable journey. Once at our Scunthorpe centre, you will join our staff team and help people participate in activities, socialise and make the most of their day.
Volunteers normally commit to one regular day per week, with hours generally running from 8:00am to around 4:30pm.
The usual starting point is our Grimsby base. Depending on circumstances, we may also be able to arrange collection from locations in the Grimsby or Cleethorpes area.
You can choose the type of volunteering that suits you. If you would prefer not to take part in the transport runs, you can volunteer solely at our Grimsby centre, supporting activities and the people who attend our service. Bus Escorting is an additional option for volunteers who are happy to accompany the driver between Grimsby and Scunthorpe.
Supporting People at Our Service
At our centre (Grimsby or Scunthorpe), you'll work alongside our existing team to:
- Encourage participation in activities and social opportunities.
- Spend time getting to know the people who use our service.
- Promote independence while providing appropriate support.
- Contribute to a friendly, inclusive and welcoming environment.
- Pass any concerns or relevant information on to members of staff.
- Work positively with staff and other volunteers.
About You
You don't need previous experience in care or disability services. We're particularly interested in people who are:
- Friendly, patient and approachable.
- Reliable and able to make a regular weekly commitment.
- Comfortable working as part of a team.
- Respectful of people's individual needs and choices.
- Open to learning and following relevant guidance and procedures.
Previous experience in care, community work, transport support, disability services or similar settings would be useful, but it is not essential. We'll provide the guidance you need to carry out the role confidently.
DBS & Safeguarding
Because you'll be supporting vulnerable adults, the successful volunteer will need to complete a DBS check before commencing the role.
What You Can Gain
Volunteering with Foresight is a chance to make a genuine difference in your local community. Alongside the satisfaction of helping others, you'll have the opportunity to gain practical experience, develop communication and interpersonal skills, and learn more about supporting disabled adults.
If you'd like to spend one day a week doing something worthwhile and becoming part of a supportive team, we'd love to hear from you.
