We are looking for a motivated and organised Health Care Support Worker to join our Pre-operative Assessment Service. This is a part-time role working Pan Powys. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support registered practitioners in preparing patients for surgery and ensuring they are optimally fit for their planned procedure and subsequent discharge. You will contribute to the delivery of a safe, effective and patient-centred pre-assessment service by undertaking agreed clinical observations, investigations and administrative activities within defined protocols and scope of practice. The role involves coordinating patients through the pre-assessment pathway, maintaining accurate clinical records, supporting health promotion and ensuring excellent communication with patients, carers and colleagues. The post holder will play an important role in maintaining patient safety, minimising delays to surgery and enhancing the overall patient experience, while upholding NHS Wales values and standards of confidentiality, dignity and compassionate care.
Support the smooth running of the Pre-operative Assessment Clinic by organising workload and coordinating patient flow.
Undertake agreed clinical assessments and investigations, including observations, phlebotomy, ECGs, urinalysis, blood glucose monitoring and MRSA screening.
Identify and promptly report abnormal findings or concerns to the qualified practitioner.
Accurately record, manage and maintain patient information on NHS systems and clinical documentation.
Prepare patient notes, test results and clinic documentation, ensuring records are complete and available for review.
Provide administrative support, manage enquiries and liaise with clinical teams, admissions staff and external services.
Welcome, support and communicate effectively with patients, relatives and carers, promoting dignity, privacy and health education.
Monitor stock levels, undertake housekeeping duties and ensure equipment checks are completed.
Participate in audits, patient experience initiatives, service improvement activities and implementation of best practice guidelines.
Support the induction of new staff and contribute to continuous professional development and quality improvement.
