Apprentice Kennel Assistant
Dudley’s Canine Retreat is looking for a reliable, caring and hardworking person to join our small team as an Apprentice Kennel Assistant.
This is a private apprenticeship position, combining practical, hands-on experience within our canine boarding facility with structured training and study.
During the apprenticeship, the successful applicant will complete a Level 2 Canine Welfare Diploma alongside their practical training at Dudley’s Canine Retreat.
This is not a standard kennel-hand vacancy. It is a training position designed for someone who genuinely wants to build their knowledge, confidence and experience within the canine-care industry.
The role will include:
* Cleaning and preparing kennel rooms to a high standard
* Feeding dogs according to their individual routines
* Providing exercise, enrichment and one-to-one interaction
* Monitoring the dogs’ health, behaviour and wellbeing
* Completing daily care and cleaning records
* Supporting the wider team with the daily running of the retreat
* Following all policies, procedures and licensing requirements
* Completing the coursework and training required for the Level 2 Canine Welfare Diploma
The ideal applicant will be:
* Passionate about dogs and animal welfare
* Reliable, punctual and willing to learn
* Calm and confident around dogs of different breeds and sizes
* Comfortable with physical work, cleaning and working outdoors
* Able to follow instructions and work well as part of a team
* Committed to completing the full private apprenticeship and qualification
Previous professional experience is not essential, as training will be provided. However, applicants must understand that kennel work involves a significant amount of cleaning, physical work and responsibility. It is not simply a position involving playing with dogs.
Weekend, early-morning and seasonal availability may be required due to the nature of the boarding industry.
