An exciting opportunity as arisen for an experienced nurse to join our Acute Oncology Specialist Nursing Team on a fixed term basis for 12 months. You should have a degree and be committed to undertaking further study to maximise your knowledge and skills, your education and professional development actively supported by both the Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.
You will work closely with partners at regional specialist centres and expected to be a core member of the established Specialist Multi-disciplinary Teams, acting as the patient’s advocate and being involved in decision-making.
With a drive for innovation, specialist care and as an integral member of this multidisciplinary team, you will be involved in developing service delivery with the aim of maximising quality, patient experience and cost-effectiveness.

The Nurse Specialist will provide support for the patient and family from diagnosis through treatment and throughout the cancer journey. Using advanced communication and psychological assessment skills the CNS will aim to assess and alleviate the psychological distress for cancer patients and their families, including identification of need for onward referral to other agencies and disciplines as appropriate
Provide education and specialist advice to patients, their carers and staff on the specific care and treatment for the speciality
Acts as a valuable resource for the multi-professional team.
Set standards of care, influence the work of other professional groups and act as a change agent
Work as a core member of the MDT supporting the cancer pathway to improve the patient experience.
